Great building

This particular cathedral is particularly appealing because of the simplicity of its atmosphere, eschewing as it does the somewhat tawdry overgilding which mars many a fine place of worship.
Evening organ recitals are especially to be recommended.

Pleasant Surprise

My husband and I were not able to get to the old churches in Brugge so we decided to go for a walk near the cruise port. We discovered this unassuming church and decided to explore. Unlike being part of a tour group we were the only people there. There was soft music playing and it was very peaceful. The stain glass windows were very interesting - modern compared to the very old looking paintings of the stations of the cross. We were able to light a couple of candles for a small donation and did so to remember my mother and father who had passed. We felt like we didn't miss out for not going into Brugge. There is a very tidy cemetary for soldiers of WWI including some unnamed graves for found British soldiers. Worth walking through.

After we visited the Seafronr Zeebruffe, we headed to visit the St. Donatian's Cathedral. It looked quite beautiful with its red bricks and its tower standing out!

What we hadn't anticipated is that there were about 50 people from the Middle East. I greeted them and sat next to one of them. They were nice. After admiring the cathedral, I stood up and took pictures at heart's content.

The stained-glass windows were quite modern, but still stylish. I liked the white pillars with wooden chairs neatly ordered.

At one place I saw a model of a ship and a bit further a bigger ship. This church must be praying for the sailors on the North Sea.

The only paintings I saw were small and was about the timeline about what Jesus endured until his crucifixion and resurrection.

I left the church with a smile, saying bye to my new friends.

I enjoyed my time here. Everything was quite peaceful. A nice little church to enjoy.

A lovely peaceful and well kept church just by the main entrance to the busy port of Zeebrugge. Very well worth a visit if in the area.
