If you love Flemish art, you have to go to the Groeningemuseum and see its spectacular Van Eycks, Memlings and more. (The Bosch and the Brueghel were not on display when I visited.) if you would like to love Flemish art, do a little reading before you go. The wall text is very general and will not help you appreciate... More

A small but beautiful museum of Flemish primitive art. The colours are incredibly vibrant with astounding detail and attention to texture and light. Inevitably the focus is on religious art but I don't think you need to be religious to appreciate the work. I went out of season so it was quiet. I think it could get really busy. I'd... More

Nice art gallery showing the history of Belgian art. Not that big. Good for an hour or so. Ideal for those who want to add a bit of culture to a food and beer weekend

The setting is delightful, even before you enter the museum. It represents some lovely old art history, even if it is not all to your own personal taste. There is a good shop attached, and your ticket gives you entry to a second museum next door, the art of Frank Brangwyn.

Interestingly enough, nearby the entrance of the Groeningemuseum was an abstract sculpture all in white. Quite a contrast with the lovely paintings inside the Groeningemuseum. Once inside, I saw numerous beautiful Flemish paintings from the past. They were so beautiful! I didn't know where to look. Beauty was everywhere. Just to make certain I could take pictures I asked a... More

Get up close and personal with Van Eyck and other renowned Flemish artists. The contemporary exhibit hall was closed during our visit, but it didn't phase us one bit. We enjoyed so many other pieces, including the famous "Virgin and Child". It's a great precursor to enjoying the Historium, especially if you have kids. They will already know a little... More

It was like looking at my northern Renaissance art history book. What a great collection of Flemish fifteenth and sixteenth century paintings, with all the big names like van Eyck, Memling, David and Christus. I wish there had been more information provided about the individual paintings, but certainly a stellar collection.

The collection was nice overall, but I had to walk around with my eyes on wikipedia to learn something about the individual paintings. Each room displays information about this or that painter, their style, their history, but in few lines. Could be improved.

One of the richest museums in Belgium! Shows paintings of the Bruges 'golden age'. Interesting temporary expositions as well.
