The 115 metres high brick tower of the Church of Our Lady is a perfect illustration of the craftsmanship of Bruges' artisans. The church displays a valuable art collection: Michelangelo's world-famous Madonna and Child, countless paintings, 13th-century painted sepulchres and the tombs of Mary of Burgundy and Charles the Bold.

The church is currently undergoing renovations, but seeing a genuine Michelangelo is definitely an experience. We sat down in front of her and just looked at her for a while. Of course it's behind protective glass and you cannot go very near either, but I urge everyone to pay the Madonna a visit. The rest of the church is also... More

Wow what a masterpiece and a must see. This is one of the treasures of Bruges that cannot be missed. It was in a recent movie and the history about it would make you understand its importance and how lucky we are it survived.

The church is great but the sculpture is worth visiting just on it's own. It's a part of the museum pass.

Lovely church, beautiful Windows and architecture. Took about half an hour. Lots of current work being done so probably more to see once this is complete.

Lots to see - tombs, Michelangelo statue, stained glass, wrought iron. Part of the church is currently under restoration. Many of the most beautiful things to see here are in the details (small items, wall decorations, carvings, etc). As this is close to the St. Bonifacious bridge and the Groeninge museum you can easily combine them.

Another must visit place in Bruges is the Church of Our Lady dating from the 13th century. Not only does it boast one of the tallest brick towers in the world, and the tombs of Charles the Bold and his daughter, Mary of Burgundy, two significant historical figures from the Middle Ages, the church also houses the beautiful and famous... You can see it but can't get a good picture as it is behind bulletproof glass. But I've seen it, so I'm happy.

this is a lovely church - not far from Markt. It is 4 euro entrance fee to go in - but well worth the cost to see the breathtaking Michelangelo statue of Madonna and Child. the statue itself is very small and situated at a distance behind a pane of glass (I must say I did not notice the glass... We were told this is one of Michangelo's works to be outside of Italy and was once stolen from Belgium by the German army before it was found and brought back. Yes it sits behind glass now and is a bit far away (bring your zoom camera lens) but if you walk to the side of the alter you can... More

You can see one of the couple of Michelangelo sculptures outside of Italy ( I've seen one in St. Petersburg Russia as well ) for a mere 4euro. Easy to get fairly close...it's behind glass for protection but very easy to view. Not very crowded in September. The rest of the church is beautiful as well as the entire town... More
