The cathedral is free to enter but photography is not allowed. The crypts are well worth a visit- remnants of the original frescoes plus clerical vestements. The interior is the usual overblown baroque, dark and gloomy. The main attraction is the altarpiece - absolutely stunning for €4, quite incredible artwork.

Wooowwww is all I can say to describe this amazing Cathedral. I've seen many of them all over the world and I can easily say that this was one of the best . I'm not even a Christian but from architectural and art point of view there's a lot to see and take in ... Free entry with a 3€... More

Although I'm quite familiar with gothic cathedrals, as I spend in my youth many hours as a choir boy in the cathedral, this is by far the most beautiful. Take this unique opportunity to se the restoration of the laterpeice of the Van Eyck - brothers :one word : AMAZING.

Definitely worth a visit. The crypt, in particular, is very interesting and there is some gorgeous art from the 12th century. We did not pay to see the alter piece, but they have several models and pictures for people to see without purchasing the extra ticket.

This is a lovely Gothic Cathedral and well worth a visit. The Adoration of The Mystic Lamb' by Van Eyck is worth the €3 charge. First of all see the copy then invest a further €1 to see the real thing complete with a receiver giving full details.

Inside you can see a famous altarpiece painted by the brothers Hubert and Jan van Eyck. Parts of it are being restored at the Museum voor Schone Kunsten, which happens in plain view. In the cathedral there is also a painting by Rubens.

I visited this weekend and was delighted to see that along with the restoration of the Gent altarpiece, the building restoration has been also been completed. For me the crypt and the items displayed there are even more impressive than the famed altarpiece.

This impressive Gothic church is located in the centre of the town. Its main attraction is a romanesque crypt and the Altar piece 'Adoration of the Mystic Lamb' by Van Eyck created around 1432 And is a 'must' visit for any art lover.

There's a lot to savor here: the Romanesque part of the crypt, the Gothic church itself which has had later additions, and the amazing Van Eyck altarpiece which has been partially restored (you can see restoration work being done at the Fine Arts Museum). I would recommend reading about the piece before you go, whether you decide to do an... More
