During my two-day visit of Ghent, I passed by this church several times to see if it was opened, either in the morning or afternoon. It was closed the times I tried to visit. I was told it opened at 2:00 p.m. nope it was...More

The outside of this church is a fairly somber affair, but the inside is worth checking out. It's obviously late Gothic and is bright and airy with the surprising array of paintings which seem to present in so many Flemish churches. It's only 30 yards...More

Located adjacent to the Bridge of the same name, St Michael's Church is a lovely example of late Gothic Church Architecture. The exterior is a little bleak but don't be put off...the Gothic and Baroque interior is beautiful. The interior is quite light and the...More

St Michael's Church in Ghent is one of the smaller churches in the city. The interior of the church is quite beautiful and it has a nice array of stained glass windows.

The building itself is a nice mixture of late gothic with it's typically high ceiling and arches, plus hints of eastern renaissance with it's domes. Inside, there's a good collection of artwork and of course a couple of Van Dyck. The pulpit is very distinctive....More

We stumbled across a free choral concert at 3pm on July 3rd sung by The Swindon Choral Society. It was charming and the acoustics were amazing.

Begun in the 11th century, the church wasn't finished until 1672. What a fine Gothic architecture! There is also great art by Anthony Van Dyck, Otto van Veen and Jan Boeckhorst.

This is actually a very large church and, although I have seen much better elsewhere, this is well worth visiting. From memory, it was open in the afternoons only when we were there
