The Westerbegraafplaats is the secular cemetery of Ghent, the Christian one being on the other side of town at Campo Santo. Many of the city's famous writers, politicians and artists are buried here and the walled-off old section of the graveyard features a wonderful park with amazing sculptures and sepulchres. Locals also use the park for jogging or casual strolling.

The Westerbegraafplaats is a nice place for contemplation or a walk among historical graves in a park landscape. Many graves are decorated with eye-catching sculptures. Interesting are also the military sections of the cemetary (including Commonwealth, French, Italians, Russians,...). The cemetary is just a short walk from Museum Dr. Ghuislain, with tram 1 terminus nearby.
