If you are wandering along the canals, Gerald the Devil's castle is an interesting picture. I would have enjoyed seeing inside, but it was closed to the public (June 2017). Overall, it is still an interesting bit of architecture.

Just behind St-Baafs cathedral, you can find this old building, a sign of the wealth of the city in its Medieval heydays.

This is worth a visit but Gravensteen is much better. This castle can only be viewed from the outside as it is not open to the public, but it's grand size and white stone walls make for some good photos.

Situated near our hotel is this beautiful building with masses of history. Once a castle and also a prison madhouse and a fire station. Would have loved to have a peek inside but all locked up. Nice to see on the way to the grand...More

Though the castle was not open for touring, it was worth walking the extra block from the other major buildings of Ghent to see it from the outside. We also saw it from the water on a canal boat ride which gave an added perspective...More
