The ruins of the medieval abbey set in a small park just a few minutes walk from Dampoort train station. A walk into the past. We saw a good [temporary] photo exhibition inside the old chapel.

This abbey is where the city of Ghent has been founded. It's a ruin but still very interesting to visit. Often used for exhibitions and fairs. In past times there was also a medieval church next to the abbey. This is wonderful evoked by threes...More

These ruins are definitely worth a visit but it only opens after April so I only saw it from the outside. You can see a lot of the old wall ruins but it would have been more interesting to see inside as well.

Very interesting place, specially if you are interested in architecture. It is amazing to see the layout of the old cathedral in green, recreated of bushes and trees.

A group of neighbours opens and runs events in the oldest or second oldest abbey of Ghent, as well as opening the abbey every Sunday in summer. For a calender of events see: http://www.burenvandeabdij.be/kalender/ (only in Dutch). Most of the abbey is in ruins, but...More

Some reviews here concern the St Bavo's Cathedral but these are 2 completely different sites. The cathedral is in the city centre and contains the Lamb of God painting (some panels are under restauration in the museum for fine arts, you can see the experts...More
