Not only is this a magnificent building, but a great deal of thought has been put into lighting the interior. The result is dramatic and the whole experience of being here is the better for it. There are magnificent statues and paintings, but that doesn't...More

There are several ways into the cathedral - the visitor entrance and up 1,000 steps. The steps are important because inside is the processional carriage of Saint Waudru whose remains are inside. Once a year, the people of Mons gather prior to the big DouDou...More

People talk of the amazing cathedrals and churches of France and larger towns/cities, but Waudru is right up there, if not better than, some of the higher profile churches. It's absolutely breathtaking, welcoming to visitors, and quiet. It's not full of tourists, which I suppose...More

Beautiful collegial! Make sure you check out the Car d'Or as well when you go for a visit. Take a moment to sit, meditate, and admire the architecture.

Read the history of the saint to provide some context before going. I have a weakness for beautiful old European churches and loved the time visiting. There was a free bathroom inside.

This unassuming church is filled with history and wonderful architecture. It is currently undergoing a renovation but there is still plenty to see. You can see famed golden carriage associated with the Dou Dou festival here too.

This cathedral is very impressive from the outside and inside. The highlight is the golden carriage that is used every year at the Doudou festivities. Besides there are splendid altars and paintings. The treasury contains many old items, including leather in which St. Waltrudis (Waudru)...More

Nice place to visit and apparently to get high :) Kids were smoking pot outside the main doors when we visited and the whole place smelled like weed.
