I wasn't even going to pass there, but at some point I looked to the end of this enormous avenue and I saw this enormous colune with a gilded top! I had to see it closely and by the gods of Ancient Egypt, it was worth the walk! Its magnificent, with so much details and meaning! It should be in... More

The Colonne du Congres is already worth a short walk just because the terrace on which it is standing gives a great view over the old town. If you are there at lunchtime, walk into the Rue de Congres, just behind it, lots of nice lunch restaurants can be found over there.

This is the location of Belgium's tomb of the Unknown Soldier, and while as a monument it may lack some of the majesty of its counterparts in London or Paris, it more than make up for it in its simplicity and accessibility. Visiting in the week after the recent attacks may have made it a bit more poignant than usual,... More

Find and see this column. Maybe not the best thing in the city, still definetely worth to see. Not far from the city centre and reachable by feet.

So yes, this is a historic monument in Brussels, but not that old. It also houses at the base the tomb for the unknown soldier, which symbolizes all people killed in service and who remained anonymous. The main part of this attraction is rather to go a bit further towards the terrace for the view over Brussels - there are... More

Valuable work of art, this splendid carved column placed along the Rue du Congres it's really remarkable, very high and totally free of charge. I had the pleasure to watch it while stoping here and get some pics, well worth a short visit, even for few minutes.

A most beautiful and intricately carved statue is found here at the Place du Congres just off the Rue Royale. it was built subsequent to the congress of 1830 to commemorate the independence of Belgium following the revolution and secession from Dutch rule. At the foot of the column is the tomb of the unknown soldier from World War 1.... More
