The Kunsthal Rotterdam is one of the leading cultural institutions in the Netherlands. With over twenty exhibitions a year, the Kunsthal offers a programme that is dynamic and always surprising. The Kunsthal is continuously transforming, and with its regularly changing exhibitions able to offer crossovers between various art disciplines. From modern masters and contemporary art to forgotten cultures, photography, fashion and design. The Kunsthal's exhibition programme gives it its national scope and international allure. In its iconic building designed by Rem Koolhaas, the Kunsthal stands for three core values: art, culture and society. The Kunsthal is not a museum, nor does it wish to be. Not having its own collection gives the Kunsthal absolute freedom, and making optimum use of that freedom is where its strength lies. With a small team, a wide range of exhibitions and activities are realised with a high turnover rate for a diverse audience. This is what makes the Kunsthal different from other institutions in the museum sector.

This museum building is another Rem Koolhaas box. This world renowned architect from Rotterdam surely won't give a hoot that his designs and your reviewer never will be friends, but there it is. Furthermore, I suspect that Mr. Koolhaas designed the interior of the building...More

Sometimes good, sometimes boring, carefully check what is on show. Don't go here without first seeing what exhibition they have. It can be really good, but also really disappointing

Very nice presentation of Maplethorpe's work and life. Stunning pictures and very crisp selection, covering his entire oeuvre, up to one of his last self portraits as an old man with a cane and a skull on the cane's head. Toilets however had these blow...More

We spent an hour at this exhibition and it was excellent. Prior to this we had lunch in the café/restaurant. The female waitress with the short hair was charming with a good sense of humour and perfect English. The lunch was exactly what we wanted....More

We didn't like the two other exhibitions at all, but the main one was superbly done, and very complete

We went to this museum in the assumption that they display art.... nothing is further from the truth. Every exhibition was a complete let down. The worst museum I visited in a very long while
