This beautiful gate is almost tucked and hidden away by a growing array of chairs, tables, drinks, bottles, little walls, restaurants, bars. Here, serving alcohol seems more important than showing an old gate. It is a bit of a shame. And a disgrace.

The Morspoort is situated next to the hotel where we sleep. The Morspoort is the western access to the city centre. In front of the gate you see a huge black canon, that's the place to make a picture. A beauty!

From our hotel, the entrance into Leiden took us through this city gate and it was a nice place of history, the drawbridge, the old cannon, and the city symbol of the two crossed keys. One one side is the canal that protected the city...More

The western city gate of the city of Leiden, my Alma Mater. One of Theo remaining city gates. Used to be a military base in the 1800’s. Nice way to enter the old city.

This is one of the two remaining gates to the historic city of Leiden. Our hotel was right next to this and we could see it from our window. Very cool part of Leiden's history.

Next to our hotel, the gate was beautiful. The entire town of Leiden is one of the nicest in the Netherlands. Walk or bike, I great place to spend a leisurely hour or so.

This is not the sort of place to visit to "do" something. Still, I found it fascinating to realize the importance of this grand city gate standing from 1669.

Leiden is loaded with picturesque landmarks. This one consists of an old bridge and an eight-sided dome. Somebody mentioned Morspoort is a national landmark - couldn’t find a confirmation for it but it’s easy to believe it is. Morspoort is not exceptionally big or colorful...More
