European museum of the year
Jul 2020
It is an amazing science museum for everyone. The museum tour starts with a great introduction at the anatomical theatre. After that we followed the different exhibitions... very informative and interactive...which made it fun for children and kept them interested till the end. It is not a huge museum.

Great Sicence Museum

It is an amazing science museum for everyone. We loved the huge kids section at first floor. Everything has been very well explained in Dutch end in English. Plus in the heart of Leiden . Perfect day out to combine with a beautiful city .

Very nice museum,great for kids
Feb 2020
We went here on one of the days that it stormed outside and due to that it was crowded inside, that said it was still a lot of fun my children of 5 and 6, my wife and I. The museum tour starts with a great introduction at the anatomical theatre, in fact it was so nice that the children wanted to see it twice!. After that we followed the different exhibitions... very informative and interactive...which made it fun for my children and kept them interested till the end.

It is not a huge museum, but it is surely worth a visit when in Leiden... If you are there on a normal day then you will be able to do more and will stay longer... In our case we finished in an hour and a half.

I can see why this museum was chosen as European museum of the year.... Hopefully more museums will follow this example.

We went to the museum today and enjoyed a guided tour around the museum. We got a lot of information from our guide. Hé was really good with the contents of the displays and the history behind the contents.

We spent 2 hours here. Lots of fascinating interactive displays about medicine. Loved the 400 year old anatomy viewing gallery. All areas fully translated into English. We had great fun with the medical displays. There are temporary exhibitions - ours was about the solar system which were really well put together
Sweet little cafe on site. Free lockers etc

One of the best museums I’ve ever been to
Nov 2019 • Family
Very high quality, interactive, beautifully laid out and presented. Good for all ages. Interactive exhibits which were great fun and educational for both adults and children. Most of the exhibits were in English as well as Dutch. I want to go back in the summer when there’s water in the water play courtyard!

A very interesting museum of science history
Jun 2019
On a very warm summer day, two science postgrads came by the museum entrance and thought to cool down. They were impressed and decided they would come back for more another time.

We weren't intending to go to a museum. We had a lot to do, but it was very hot and on our way towards the station we passed the place, so with our museumkaarts in our pockets we thought we might as well take the chance to spend some time in air conditioned rooms. But then we found an interesting museum that showed us both (and both of us are science postdocs, so we have some prior knowledge) interesting insight into the scientific method and specifics about the history of science, including a broad range of topics from astronomy, biology, medicine, physics, engineering and mathematics.

The fact that you can enjoy the museum after studying the sciences does not mean that that is a necessity: The museum also seemed very accessible to children (maybe late primary school, in particular) who were obviously enjoying some parts of the exposition in particular, as well as making excellent use of the water playground with toy canals in the courtyard.

Very Special Museum of Medicine and Science
Jul 2019
I tend not to like the usual science museums, which are essentially for kids most of the time. But this museum is extraordinary, with exhibtions on Boerhaave himself and his impact on modern medicine and on the history of science and medicine more generally. It's very modern and well done. Highly recommended!
