Really great to see. Beside Leiden University and along the side of the canal. Lots of plants to see particularly in the glass houses and information on the history of the gardens.

The glass houses were interesting and labelling of plants and information available on the history of the place was excellent. The layout was excellent with a lot of different plants found on this planet. One can spend the whole day here studying all the plants.

I visited the gardens in November, which is definitely not the month to visit taking in to consideration the amount of plants on show in the fern garden, rose garden and Chinese garden are non existent. However, in saying this, I still enjoyed the visit...More

Do not miss the Hortus, the pride, maybe, of Leiden University, There is so much to see, inside in the green houses as well as outside. Tropical plants, herbs, insect eating orchids, poisonous plants and what have you. And the mighty Victoria, wow.

If in Leiden and the weather is fine the gardens are very interesting and the glass house is even better. Loads of interesting plants that reminded me of Australia's rain forests. There is also a very nice cafe inside.

The oldest botanical university garden in the netherlands, and it shows. Its nice but rather small, thats where the probleem is, no room to expand in the inner historic City of Leiden. The limitation is hampering the experience. What a pitty.

You can walk around for 1 up to 2 hours, depending on the time you have. If cold weather you can spend 30 min. up to an hour in the orangeries, where you find tropical weather.
