This was on our "must see" list for our Netherlands holiday. I would say to do it if you are in town and have 30 minutes to spare. My wife adored it, but left me feeling slightly underwhelmed. It's fun though! It's a lovely building architecturally, well looked after with friendly staff and a decent souvenir shop. The stairs are... More

The main function of this building for tourist should be the down stairs (free) area: VVV or tourist office. They have a small selection of goods for sale but they will also help you if you have any questions on what to do or see in Gouda.

This building was used to weigh the cheese in the market The building itself is very interesting and the facade has a wonderful sculpture piece over the door way

It really isn't worth visiting the cheese museum in Gouda. The market was lovely (Thursday), but the cheese museum upstairs in the weighing house is grossly overpriced and not worth the visit. Just a few shabby exhibits and a man mumbling in 3 languages about how to make cheese. He mumbled such a lot that you couldn't tell immediately what... More

The Waag (weighing house) is also the tourist information, cheese shop and souvenir shop. The cheese museum is upstairs at a cost. You can weigh yourself on the old scales for a photo opportunity. You can also pay for a specific certificate as evidence you were there!

The weigh scales on ground floor were interesting to look at however paying for the visit upstairs was not worthwhile. We watched a short film with English subtitles but there was nothing else of much interest. Observing the Thursday market outside was more interesting and was free.

Waag has an authentic European decor - with high ceilings, comfy chairs and lots of places to sit. The menu is well rounded and the food has always been consistently good. The problem is the service! What service? is more like it. We were there on Sunday for 1 hour and it was almost impossible to flag some one down... More

The building is definitely very nice and impressive especially at the back with the green wall . This is also a restaurant and the lack of staff lead us to leave without ordering as the waiting time was too long more than 20 minutes without getting a waiter .

A nice old building and we did the tour. It's not much to see but guide was passionated about what he was showing. Not a must see but when you're around and want to learn something about cheese and clay pipes;)

This is basically a cheese store. The highlight is a big cheese scale. The good part is that the tourist information center where you can pick up brochures. Buy some cheese in the store. Skip the museum tour.
