Lovely monument with helpful volunteers

A lovely church with impressive high ceilings and large organ. Many stain glass windows and small side chapel/tombs with ornate carved stone lids. It was a bigger church than I expected and holds one of the first Dutch translations of the Bible.

When you are in Dordrecht this is a must see. Located on a very nice place close to the water it is always a good place for some pictures.

Historical church, famous for its association with the Synod of Dort (Dordrecht) 1618-19
Sep 2019
This is THE major landmark in the centre of Dordrecht and is a "must" any visit to Dordrecht (Dort or Dordt in English). It is associated with the Synod of Dordrecht (1618-19) although the building where the Synod was held is no longer extant.

There are many interesting features to the church, not least being a permanent exhibition relating to the Synod.

Well worth a visit - in fact, no visit to Dordrecht is complete without visiting this building.

Lovely old Kerk
May 2019 • Couples
Unfortunately when we visited the Grote Kerk in Dordrecht it was a very overcast lousy weather day. It didn't seem worth the effort to climb the tower for the views which would not have been optimal. However we were very impressed with the stained glass windows and the very interesting tombstones that cover the floor of the church. Impressive piece of history

Going up the tower.

A wonderful, enormous, historic building. So interesting and an experience climbing the tower to the clock faces.
Luckily a fine day so I could see all the canals and buildings of Dordrecht and Rotterdam, in the distance.
Only €2 admission and €1 for the tower. Please enjoy the time you spend there and then explore the rest of the city.

Beautiful church - stands proud with its high tower above the surrounding buildings.
May 2019
We spent quite some time in the church - the first Dordtse Synod was held there 400 years ago over a period of six months. Beautiful stain grassed windows.

Some impressive sights if you fancy a good workout!

The Grote Kerk is a must see place if you're visiting central Dordrecht. Listen out for the beautiful mellow sound of the church bells on the hour and the half hour as you walk round the old town area. Basic entry to inside is €2 with an extra€1 if you fancy climbing the bell tower. There are great views of the surrounding area from the top but the 275 stairs are very steep and narrow, which helps to make it visit you won't forget! The main church is huge and elegant with nice acoustics and there are some striking stained glass windows with beautiful colours and a nice modern twist. You can get a free English language information leaflet or join guided tour if you want to. The staff are pleasant and helpful too😊👍

A beautiful historic church with interesting exhibits
Mar 2019 • Couples
We took an unguided walk around the church and were impressed by the architecture. The exhibits give a nice overview of the history and historic importance of the church and the city over the centuries. The staff was very friendly.
