Amersfoort central is full of stone houses in old style. I always wander the streets (especially the ones around Mondriaanhuis) to feel the relaxing atmosphere and those part is more silent and calm than the onze-lieve-vrouw. On sunny days you can get your drink and sit next to the canals to enjoy

Worth passing by when you are visiting the city. Most of these houses were built in the 17th century and are national monuments. Don't forget to cross the canal and look at the back of the houses and the gardens as well!

I studied in Amersfoort so I know this area inside out. When I revisited last year it was not much changed. It should included in your walk around town.

The walk on the streets of Amersfoort is very nice. Occasionally you will feel that you are in an old dutch painting. Some corners remind of Brugge. The town is very small and can be seen in about half a day.

Do walk the full round! It feels a little bit like stepping back in time and you can have a sneak peak to some of the small gardens that people have...

Since I live in the centre of Amersfoort, this is an area that I walk through a lot. My boyfriend and I often take walks together and walking along the muurhuizen is one of our favorite routes. It's just very beautiful and I'm always jealous of the people who live in these houses!

Apart from the interesting history of the development of houses along the former town walls it's a really pleasant stroll past beautiful homes and town houses, manicured gardens and quiet streets. Gives you a feel for the town away from the more touristy parts. Makes you wish you lived here.

After the old walls became obsolete when the city grew in the past, people were allowed to build houses where the wall was. There are now all kinds of houses in many styles. All nicely kept. Lots of flowers in pots make it a pleasant walk.
