The engine whistles and the fireman shovels coal. Wooden partitions creak, wheels sing and steam hisses. In your carriage you will experience a story from a bygone era. Between the historic towns of Hoorn, Medemblik and Enkhuizen steamtrams meander from village to village across the Westfrisian countryside and a historic steamer with a fantastic saloon-deck sails along the coast of lake IJsselmeer.

A quaint little steam train with old coaches full of character. More like a scene from "Thomas the Tank Engine". You can get refreshments as you travel along on your journey through the countryside. There is abundant wildlife, particularly birds to be seen en-route. The train stops on the journey allowing you to take photographs.

The museum steam tram Hoorn - Medemblik runs in the province of North-Holland, the most north eastern province of the Netherlands. The love for the material and the upkeep is great. Worth a visit to the museum (small) and if you have the time a trip on the tram itself.

Did the historical route with a fellow traveler. Had great fun on the stretch from Hoorn to Medemblik. After that we took a boat to Enkhuizen. Nice day out in summer!

A beautiful day in summer. Start with the steam-train in Hoorn. Slwly you will go to Medemblik. You can visit the city center for a small time. From there you can take the boat to Enkhuizen. In Enkhuizen you can choose to visit the old center of Enkhuizen or visit the "buitenmuseum". The "buitenmuseum"is great. If you are ready in... More

This is a fun way to travel. I had never been on a steam train before. What a treat! Everyone was dressed in proper attire just as if it was back in the day. There is even a brief pit stop that showcases what it was like to do deliveries. Beautiful countryside of Holland. Most enjoyable.

We rode the train and boat on a chilly November day. The line operates a full schedule during tourist season, but curtails activity during the off season. Purchased return rail tickets from Amsterdam Centraal to Enkhusen, but got off in Hoorn on the first stage of the trip as that's where the Steamtram departs. Enjoyable trip by train (steamtram) to... Everytime we have guests from abroad, we try to take them to experience this attraction. Riding in a old steam train from Hoorn to Medemblik is enjoyable. The scenery along the small villages and in the spring time you will see the tulip fields. More interesting is the work place of the steam train self. Seeing how do the volunteer... More

We were lucky to take the train and boat tour off-season so did not have to wait and had plenty of space to ourselves. The train is beautifully restored and you can sit either first or second class. Leaving Hoorn train station you will have two stops until arriving at Medemblik. The trip takes about two hours. From Medemblik you... More

Reception at Steam trein station in Hoorn was good. If you're like steam trains theres lots to see. Steam trein trip to Medemblik great through the Dutch countryside stopping at a couple of villages. Medemblik a nice old small town with a small castle. All in all really a great day out. Good value for money.
