Frans Hals is one of the world greatest painters; I like him more than Rembrandt. The museum is a must if you are visiting Haarlem. Video presentation is quite good as well.

Nice location in a former hospital (gasthuis) that dates back to the 17th cent. Great collection of work by Haarlems master painter Frans Hals, but also work by other artists and objects from the golden century. Absolutely worth the detour (from Amsterdam) and you will...More

We absolutely loved this museum! One gets the feeling of the unbelievable talent of this man and his contemporaries by admiring their masterpieces. How not to smile when those in the frames smile at you? It is easy to feel transported in time to the...More

It was beautiful to walk around and look at the art work and dolls house and everything the museum has to offer. I would say that it is a must see in Haarlem

As US tourists, we didn't know much about Frans Hals before our visit. We learned a lot with the free headset included with the ticket purchase. We had fun with the humor exhibit and the photo op!

I also really liked the room and information and research...More

A stunning collection of Hals' masterpieces as well as context about him and his contemporaries. You can see up close his unmistakable bold brushstrokes and penetrating psychological insights that made him Haarlem's top portraitist as well as a worthy member of the "big three" of...More

This museum has some great, unique art. Unfortunately, management decided to cheer it all up with some hideous modern art, totally out of tune with the original art of Frans Hals and his contemporaries. To top it all off, some twitter-like messages were added that...More
