Neighbourhood: Centrum
Amsterdam’s buzzing hub, with its sprawling network of tram rails and a seemingly constant flow of tourists and commuters, yields convenient access to some of the best sightseeing, shopping, and street life in Europe. Closest at hand are the Royal Palace, the quaint shops of Haalremmerdijk, the pedestrianized zones Kalverstraat and Dam Square with popular neighborhoods such as the Red Light District, and the Canal Ring hardly more than a moment’s stroll away. With the well-connected Centraal Station as Centrum’s base, it's easy to travel farther afield via one of the city’s iconic trams.

Amazing Mekong

Travelmarvel Mekong river cruise Feb 2020
APT essential Vietnam and Cambodia – Feb 2020
We booked this tour with APT but as we now know the holiday was provided by Travel marvel. Either way it doesn’t matter who the provider was because our cruise and hotel stays and the whole holiday was amazing and I cannot praise the organisation or holiday format highly enough.
When I was researching this holiday I had trouble finding many current reviews so for any future travellers I want to update their reviews with something more current.
We travelled from London Heathrow to Ho Chi Mein City via Changi airport with Singapore Airlines. Flights were long but reasonable comfortable and as promised we were met by the tour representative in the arrivals and transported to Fusion Suites Hotel. I had booked for an additional night which I would recommend anyone booking this holiday to do.
The hotel is lovely, very comfortable, very central and offered a delicious breakfast. There is a 7-11 less than 2 minutes away ( be careful crossing the street) which only accepted dong but which provided all the necessary luxuries. Chocolate , cigarettes, soft drinks, beer and milk. I booked a massage for our final morning and paid 600,000 dong for an excellent full body massage from a delightful young lady. Laundry service is available and reasonably priced with same day return. The hotel provides toiletries, bottled water and there are water stations by the lift to refill them. Hairdryer works but is a bit of a nightmare but walk in shower was superb. If I visit Saigon in the future I will not hesitate to book the Fusion Suites Hotel.
Our official tour started with meeting Chung our tour director. An excellent guy who stayed with us the whole tour, and if anyone had a problem he instantly sorted it out. Our tour was full (88 ) so we were split into 3 tour groups limiting the individual tours to 30 people so we never felt over crowded. Choice of additional tours were offered for our two free half days at reasonable ( 30-40$ ish), recommendations were even given for restaurants for the two evening meal not included in Vietnam and Cambodia. All the included tours were absolutely first rate, interesting, well organised and pure amazing eye candy.
Hygiene at both hotels and on-board La Marguerite were absolutely excellent. I think a few passengers had upset tummies but Peter and I were careful and we were both fine. Different food, air-con and humidity etc is almost bound to cause some upsets, but I’m a bit of a hygiene freak and I genuinely do not thing the cleanliness standards were responsible.
All staff (particularly on board) were amazing – friendly, helpful, professional and so gracious. – whether you tipped extra or not.
Food on-board is very very good. Four courses and choice of three mains and if nothing suited the waiter would always arrange a burger and fries. I had thought I might lose weight on this holiday as I didn’t think the food would suit me but instead I gained 7 lbs- proof of catering standard
Actual advice I would give anyone is –
• Don’t stress about the few negative comments within other reviews
• don’t have your air-con too low otherwise you risk sore throat and/or cold.
• Be aware that humidity will probably make your ankles and feet swell so take wide fitting comfortable shoes.
• Don’t skimp on sun screen and always carry water whenever you go on tour
• Be vigilant about personal hygiene – follow the guides advice
• Perhaps take your own toiletries
• Don’t worry about this holiday – its amazing and you will love it.

River Cruise of a lifetime!
Apr 2019
We took advantage of APT fly and cruise deal, took a room down stairs as when we stay in hotels we only use the room to sleep in (if you have knee problems take another level.. All I can say is that no matter what level you stay on the staff and crew of the Amareina treat you equally. We sailed 12th April 2019 yes it was pretty cold, but if you rug up with a warm jacket you aren't jostling crowds.
Food was great, plenty of choice, just don't expect lobster! Plenty of tours to choose from each day, they catered for different levels of fitness so those with limited walking could still enjoy the tours. I'd say that 75% of our fellow travellers did not spend a cent on the entire cruise (except for souvenirs).
Tours: The 30km bike ride is only for the super fit. One of our friends was put in a taxi with the bike as she wasn't keeping pace with the group.
Flight home to Australia: Our transfer got us to Budapest airport 2hrs before. When we saw the queue we nearly fainted(Fridays always busy), we were first of our group to check in & was advised that there were not many seats left on the flight & did we mind sitting in separate seats. We all got through except for one young couple who were put on standby, once they opened up our flight to board they approached the flight staff, mentioned APT & were given seats.
Would recommend APT cruising to anyone who asks & are hoping to save money for another cruise in 2022 for our 50th Wedding anniversary, would you believe April again! l

What a good time
Apr 2019 • Couples
2 weeks of being looked after by staff who were focused on looking after you , great food and a top group in the bar. Lots of Aussies as APT is Australian owned so it was good meeting new nomads whilst enjoying the best of the Danube and Rhine rivers

We have just returned from APT Paris to Prague. Paris was really good BUT was disappointed that the Louvre and Eiffel Tower were no longer part of the choices BUT in saying that, two of our group insisted on the Eiffel Tower and APT consultant took them, waited in line for 2 and 1/2 hours for tickets and gave them cash for taxi fare back to the hotel. I personally was not prepared to stand in line for that length of time. The trip from Amsterdam to Budepest was disappointing as there was insufficient water for ships to go the full length so the trip was modified. Part by ship and part by coach and very difficult to keep to the intenerary. The water levels are definitely not the fault of APT and they did the best they could under the circumstances. All guests were given cash money for meals and drinks while not on the boat and even went to the extent of paying for use of public ameneties.

We were put up in hotels and I would say given all companies were in the "same boat" (pardon the pun) would have been no mean feat. 1 was excellent, 2 were really good and only one did not quite meet my expectations. Still as I said there would have been a lot of companies doing the same thing.

We are looking at maybe doing this again next year but will look at water levels before we decide.

Disappointing river cruise with APT Amsterdam to Budapest
Aug 2018 • Couples
Have just returned from a river cruise with APT - the first 7 days from Amsterdam were just perfect, the staff on board the Amaverde and restaurant staff were just lovely, the pianist in the lounge Kalin was just awesome, so passionate about his music everyone had an absolute ball. THEN we were transferred to another ship the Amabella the restaurant staff have need a lesson on customer service, the pianist in the lounge was a wasted space, she was dull and boring. The temperature in the lounge was so cold every night that most of the passengers ended up getting sick with colds etc. Would I encourage my family & friends - A DEFINITE NO. Extremely disappointed with APT

Leisurely river cruise
Sep 2018 • Solo
I always find when you travel on your own that some tours can be a bit hit or miss. The APT Amsterdam to Budapest river cruise was a bit of a miss. Majority of passengers would have been well over 60 and seemed to be a bit standoffish from single passengers. Tour guide also had those passengers he liked and the rest of us seemed to just be an inconvenience to him. Would I do it again? NO. Scenery was amazing. Food - average

APT phoned my wife at home and told her our itinerary was being changed due to the water levels in the river Danube. We had to change ship's at a lock in Germany. But do not worry said the enlightened Alison Pryde, as everybody that I have spoken to is extremely happy with the event. All you have to do is pack up all your clothes and our staff will take them to the next ship. We will put the cases in your cabin and then all you have to do is to put them back in the wardrobe and drawers and all will be status quo. What are my alternatives, was the first question the very next morning when I telephoned Alison Pryde. I am afraid that you have no alternative, other than to cancel your trip. If you did that, you will of course lose all your money that you paid for the 15 day river cruise for you and your wife. I was going to suggest to Alison Pryde that perhaps her name should be spelt perhaps a different way. MAGNIFICENT EUROPE THIS IS NOT.
