A wonderful exhibition
Sep 2021
A wonderful exhibition in a former shipyard. Entrance is expensive (17.50 euros) but in line with the price of musea in the Netherlands in general. The display is smartly done and the explanations are interesting. Nice cafeteria too.

Beautiful street art! But it's very cold to visit in the summer since there is no heater inside. Make sure wrap up warm!

great street art
Jan 2020
We had a great time discovering the street art of Nieuw-West in Amsterdam, with a lovely, friendly, well-informed guide to tell us about the history of the different art works...highly recommended!

May 2019
It was great! The tour through the quarter was so interesting. A wonderful women (sorry I don't remember the name) showed me very inspiring works of street art. It was really really interesting and so cool. Thank you very much for this impressions! I will come again. :)

Not worth it unless you are in Amsterdam for weeks
Aug 2019 • Couples
We were very disappointed with spending 4 hours to see what you can see in every metro or street in US. Absolutely not worth the effort or time .

Dear Amir. Thank you very much for your 2nd vindictive review. When you came to the gallery with your family, our team had offered you a standard ticket of 20 euros per person and a knowledgeable art historian guide to show you the locations of the works. You said that you only have 1 hour and you want to see everything quickly, without the stories or a guide. I personally warned you that the map option is not for inexperienced street art hunters and, again, the guide will be quicker to show you the walls. You said you don't want to pay for the full ticket and map is OK for you. You did not manage to orientate well and as you express yourself in the other review on Google - only found 1 wall. Well, this is not an indicator of our collection but simply a case of your inability to use maps and your greed when it comes to following the suggested principle of museum's operation: the collection is spread over 4 km and you do need a guide to show you the works. Next time, insead of saving money on culture and leaving hateful reviews - try to go with an advice from professionals.

A Must Do In Amsterdam!
Jul 2019 • Family
That is a very strong title to have, when lists of things to go to in central Amsterdam seem endless. However, this is a great way to see more of the city beyond what tourists usually just see. If you are in Amsterdam for more than a day or two, I strongly encourage you signing up for a tour!
The museum is a walking tour through Amsterdam Nieuw-West. Our guide was fantastic, she was fluent in French and English too. The Street Art Museum gave such a fresh perspective on not just street art but art as a whole (not going to spoil anything.) There are some beautiful murals to see!
A heads up: when arriving to the building it might feel like you went the wrong way as it is in a neighborhood, but the door is labelled and covered in art! Also the tour doesn't end where you start, but does end next to a bus stop.

The reception was closed on saturday afternoon !
Feb 2019 • Couples
The reception was closed though I deliberately asked opening hours after having read a bad comment on Tripadvisor.
The lady said we could book a tour (for group or individual) or get a map with the street art spots. But there was nobody at Immanuel Kanthof 1.
I recommend NDSM visit instead which is in the North and very interesting!

Disappointing private tour / request a guide fluent in your language
Oct 2018 • Solo
Pros: interesting Morrocan/Turkish neighborhood far from tourist areas, visually interesting street art & artists from all over the world have work in the neighborhood.

Cons: not as informative as hoped, see below. More of a workshop/art studio than museum. No details shared on the groups goals, etc.

Scheduled a private tour in advance. They had, however, forgotten I was coming and told me that when I arrived. The English speaking woman in charge (can’t remember her name, Elaina maybe?) hastily assigned someone to take me around.

From what I could tell, my guide was super nice guy, but we weren’t able to communicate really as he spoke French & only limited English. I do not speak French at all, so I was no help either. He truly tried & did his best. I felt bad for him - I’m sure that was frustrating for him also. Most of time we walked around in silence.

Overall, I probably wouldn’t recommend it to my friends. But, if you’ve been to Amsterdam before, have seen everything else you’ve wanted to see & have extra time, it’s worth a trip to the neighborhood. Just request a guide you can talk to for your sake & theirs.

I had high hopes, glad to see from the positive reviews that other people had better experiences, maybe I was the exception.

A change of perspective
Sep 2018 • Friends
One of the most interesting, unique tours I have ever been on. We were guided by the founder and learned much about communication and themes in street art but also about Amsterdam culture and social politics. Don't expect run of the mill walk and talk and bring sufficient time, food and drink to give yourself over to the experience (we came for two and left after 3.5 hours). It is worth knowing some basic facts about street art and graffiti in advance if you wanna keep your head from overclocking. Inspiring and committed.

UNIQUE: not just a tour, not just a museum ..
Aug 2018 • Friends
This was my second visit to SAMA and I went with my husband and friends this time. It was a privilege to be guided by Anna the founder. She is a visionary and it was very rewarding to get insights into this very worthwhile project that connects global artists to the local community and brings art into the lives of people who would not have access to it.
Anna is very knowledgeable about street art so it is fascinating to hear her talk about the various artists, techniques and styles (though my friends might have preferred a lighter treatment). The tour took about 2 hours and we went back to have a conversation with her. They do have a map of their projects (rather widely distributed in northwest Amsterdam) and I would guide myself next time in order to see more of the works.
They do have an artist-in-residence program. It's great to see them doing such good work.
