The area
Address
Neighbourhood: De Pijp
Bustling Albert Cuypstraat serves as the main drag through De Pijp and the location for Albert Cuyp Market, the largest and most famous of Amsterdam’s many outdoor markets. Beyond this sometimes-frantic thoroughfare, tiny lanes beckon urban explorers in search of the latest trends and hidden gems. Nearly half the residents living in De Pijp are foreigners and a good number of them are students. Here you'll find a multitude of ethnic restaurants, great cafes and bars, and a brilliant array of locally owned shops, all catering to a broad range of budgets and tastes.

Best observed in winter
Jan 2020 • Solo
During spring, summer and autumn most of the building's facade is covered by a set of high trees, but in winter time one can take a moment, standing on the other side of the street, or perhaps at the tram stop in the middle of the street, and admire the many details of the facade, like the two gnomes tossing a ball back and forth. Cool photo opp.

Superb edifice
Jul 2019 • Solo
This place - by chance - is next to one of my favourite Dutch bars (Foeders) - and I always like to look up at the edifice. One gnome is passing a ball to another and this may be because the house changed ownership partway though its building. Nice story. :)

Pretty Cool
Feb 2018 • Couples
We were staying very close by to this house and so thought we would stop by to see it. It really is an absolute treasure! A large and well maintained property. The gnomes are much larger than I expected. We got some great photos of it. The area is generally very picturesque here, there is a draw bridge and a very wide canal close by where you can appreciate the house boats and great views. The architecture in this area is all very intricate and beautiful with some gorgeous houses with spires and window shutters. If you appreciate architecture and scenery give this area a quick peek!

Attractive residential building
Mar 2016 • Couples
This is an attractive building because of its facade which has gnomes on it. From there i think it got its name "house with the Gnomes". It is picturesque.

Different architecture
Mar 2016 • Couples
The building is decorated with a variety of ornaments, including gnomes, putti and eagles which is uncommon architecture but very catchy.

A Hidden Eye-catcher
Nov 2014 • Couples
This house is one of particular buildings I found during my walk in the "Pijp" area. You will not see it if you're not looking for it as usually the big trees in the front of the house will block your sight. It's supposed to be an eye-catcher. The architecture style is mix of gothic, renaissance and chalet. It is 12 separate apartments. I talked to one of the residents who was about to go to her work. She told me a litle bit about it. You can find the story of the house with its legend at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Huis_met_de_Kabouters
