Amsterdam is one of those cities that are enjoyable to simply walk around in. Herengracht is known to be the most important canal of the city. Stroll around and simply marvel at the place, Amsterdam in itself is already a sight to behold.

Herengracht is the first of the three major canals in the centre of the city of Amsterdam. It is very beautiful and picturesque with grand houses on either side. It is no wonder why even Peter the Great stayed here on a visit.

The large houses that stand either side of the canal give a clue as to the canal's name.It was great sailing down the canal as due to there being fewer boats than in the summer, being able to stop and take photographs. There are also many cafes and restaurants to sit and watch life pass by!

This city is so cool. The canals are such a part of the city and make the city unique. The houseboats and houses all along the canal make it even cooler. It's very great.

Herengracht is the main canal of Amsterdam, where the elites of the past had grand houses and business, now its a great place to stroll, snap photos or have coffee or lunch at one of the many quaint eateries.

Amsterdam is noted for it's canals. And the Herengracht is "grand dame" of the them all. I took a boat tour that went through all the canals and is a calm and serene way to enjoy them from the water. Walking the canals is another alternative and great to drink the local beer seated at a local pub. This is... More

This UNESCO World Heritage Site is as historically significant as it is perennially popular. Whether you’re a history buff, architecture enthusiast, shutterbug, or fashionista, odds are you’ll find the Amsterdam you're looking for while roaming around the Grachtengordel (Canal Ring). A brilliant place to get lost in a moody meander and a key component to any sightseeing trip to Amsterdam, this area's major draws include the Anne Frank House, the Bloemenmarkt floating flower market, an enviable assortment of independent boutiques along De Negen Straatjes, and of course all of Grachtengordel’s lovely canals and bridges.
