I love these type things in Amsterdam, very nice small trails of ingenuity and design. This place is on the way to my friends house and it is a great walk or bike ride across the city!

These are a number of historic islands, not far from Central Station. Many canals, bridges, waterways - and historic buildings. The old warehouses have been converted to apartments, but have retained their authentic appearance. You will find monuments, ship wharfs and a number of unique views and see-throughs in this area. Nice cafés and restaurants can be found here too.

A quaint little area. Spotted it when touring by boat on the canal and decided to stop. Some shops and restaurants with a lot of activity in the adjacent neighborhood.

Bickerseiland, Prinseneiland, Realeneiland; small, packed, quaint and a rich history are just a few words to mark this area of Amsterdam. The old warehouses are converted into apartments, still sporting the old shutters. Other buildings are completely new. Should you want to walk around - go ahead and find a number of drawbridges between the warehouses and old wharfs, which... More

You can take a ferry from behind Centraal Station to this area also called Amsterdam Noord. The ferry is free and takes only about 7 minutes. You will be transported back in time to a tranquil village-like atmosphere, with parkland all around and a distinctly lazy feel. I recommend it on a hot summer day when you've had enough of... More

This is a very enjoyable walk westward from Central Station, then crossing a railway bridge leading into the Islands. Even though it is close to the city it is a very tranquil district and has a village like feel to it. We visited on a Saturday morning so it was probably quieter than usual. Residents were walking their dogs and... More
