Had a lovely walk along the Canals. When the weathers nice just having a long stroll along the side of the Canals. Seeing the city slowley while walking and taking in the whole atmosphere is so much better than using public transport. Walk or cycle to experience all what Amsterdam has to offer

The Amstel is the river though Amsterdam which feeds all its canals which provides life to the city...also the name of its famous beer. Take a stroll along its banks, stop in a eatery or pub for a bite or drink to enjoy the splendor or the town.

We took a tram over to Weesperzijde Street to see the childhood home of a friend. The house he grew up in was right across the street from the Amstel River. What a beautiful memory to live right on the river in such a great city! We enjoyed our short visit there and imagined what that must have been like.... More

I came during the night after a dinner and the reflecting lights from the water make such a great view. Lots of tourists walking along with you though, be sure to stay out of the way of scooters which often appear.

As rivers go this one was a lot wetter than others I have visited. It's cool how the water stays in the river all the time. Wonderful display of water based riverness.

Not worth spending your time. Look at a map of Amsterdam and you'll find out that this canal is outside the city center (with its canals and small and typical streets). The only famous building along the Amstel are the Amstel Hotel and the Carré theatre.

The Amstel river is the origin of Amsterdam! A must see and stroll. A 16 mile short river, name Amstel flows from the direction of Utrecht to the IJsselmeer. About 750 years ago Amsterdam started by placing a dam in the river. A small village grew into a great city! Walk along the river, feel, smell, experience the history!
