I was in Casablanca with a friend a few weeks back and the eve was an absolute riot. The bar is pretty small with the song selections attached to metal brackets on the wall but don't let that put you off). The eve started out rather quite and I managed a few warm up songs before 11pm. I've been singing... More

Don't expect to get your change back here if you don't pay exactly what your drinks cost. When the bartender poors a full glass of beer over you while picking Up the glasses, don't expect an apology. If your looking for a bar where the owners shout out loud (through the microphone) that they love "BLACK PETE", yeah, this is... More

Astrid, the owner, liked my Keep Austin Weird t-shirt and we began talking. The menu was appealing, so we decided to stay for a meal. Delightfully rich mushroom soup, generous portion of steak and fresh fries and salad. Dessert was ice cream with cream and fresh raspberries with mint. Great people-watching, including the gentleman of a certain age, clad only... More

Its a diffucult bar to find in the Red Light District but once you get it there is barely any room to move. Unless you can shove your way to the front its hard to find any evidence of being in a Kareoke Bar. You're forced to place your coat within the coat closet that within the bathroom down a... More

Karaoke bar . We were looking to have fun and came in a group of friends, all young working professionals. We are not underage, stupid and misbehaving teenagers - but were treated as such for no apparent reason. if you want to spoil your evening with unfriendly waiters - go there .

Dreadful place; very unfriendly. Don't go!! Really, the music is sort of OK but the personell just never learned how to behave. Amsterdam has so much more to offer.

Had paella around the corner and were walking back to our hotel and heard some music inside... Stepped in and holy moly... There was a 15 person band in the cubby in back playing outstanding jazz. $5 for a beer and wine (both!). What a treat!

Visited here one Friday evening with friends. It was a bit quiet to start off with then from almost out of nowhere it got pretty busy in there. Drink prices were about average for Amsterdam, typically about €5 for a pint. We enjoyed the vibe here and it some it was frequented by people in their early 20's who were... More

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighbourhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
