Worth visiting

Lovely place to visit with kids. Big variety of animals, yet the zoo is not too big. Plenty of cafes to have a cup of coffee/lunch.

All in all this zoo is okay and does have some positive elements and I do believe it makes a nice day trip out if you're stuck for things to do in Amsterdam. However some of the enclosures at the zoo are incredibly poor (too small) and lack enrichment for the animals, I was extremely excited to visit as I... More

This zoo is locates close to city centrum of Amsterdam. There are many animalhouses where to go inside if its rainy day. For me bird house was nice due there were free birds in the building. This place is easy to go wirh kids. There are also multiple restaurants. Really nice place to visit.

It is worth a visit to the Artis. My 20 something son wanted to visit and we both enjoyed it. They have a large aquarium to visit as well as the usual zoo animals. It is well laid out and has lovely grounds.

Friend and I went at 10ish and there was no que. it only took us two hours to get round, however we did miss out the aquarium and butterfly room. Lovely zoo, very well kept and clean. Variety of animals and lots of coffee shops all around the zoo which would be perfect for a family day out. Must recommend... More

After reading reviews we decided to take a trip to the zoo for my birthday, and wow... didn't regret a second of it! From the moment you walk in there is something to see. What made the zoo so great was that so many of the animals are not caged and you can see them without bars or fencing obscuring... More

We visited whilst on a trip to Amsterdam and ended up staying there for a good portion of our day! The zoo has a good range of different Animals, and some nice places to grab something to eat/drink. We loved the the Red Pandas, Sea Lions and fennec foxes as well as the reptile house. As others have mentioned, some... More

You won't see such variety at one place as you can see here. Although, we went in December and it was too cold, but our visit was pleasant and we had a good time in the zoo.

Staying in Plantage & the East

Neighbourhood Profile
Plantage & the East
The eastern edge of central Amsterdam provides visitors with the chance to imagine the city that Rembrandt called home (and to tour his historic house) while shopping like the thriftiest of locals at Waterlooplein’s massive flea market, or even enjoying a craft beer beside the tallest wooden windmill in The Netherlands. This verdant, serene, and stately part of town is home to Artis Royal Zoo, one of Europe’s oldest (and still best kept) zoos, and Hortus Botanicus, one of the oldest botanical gardens in the world. It's also an ideal setting for the Dutch outpost of St Petersburg’s Hermitage.
