An essential shop when visiting

From excellent value wine to what I am told is great make up and everything in between plus good cheap food. What more do you need

..most people seem to be drawn here for the very cheap food. We had coffee and an omelette (with bacon) at a cost of just 1.5 euro. The cakes did look very nice too. Even have some larger ones for take-out.

These stores are dotted all over Amsterdam and I went in a couple, they are usually pretty similar in layout and what they stock. I especially liked the cute stationery and kitchenware. It also proved useful when I needed some superglue to stick the heel back on my boot, and for a couple of bits and pieces for a dinner... More

Great for getting little arts & crafts bits and bobs, especially for children. Great value for money, came here several times during our stay.

Yes!! This place was my bread, jam & peanut butter! I always like to get souvenirs that are usable for everyday life. Like some nice clothes or yummy foods, etc. This place had everything I needed and more. I bought my son some super cute pants and shirts for only 12 euro. He still wears them and they're adorable. Its hard to imagine a similar place in the uk though I suppose that a much smaller version of IKEA will do. However, the real draw fr the Dutch is the cheap food. Pretty good for the price too.

This is a department store! You can get everything from underwear, to fondant and baking supplies, belts, to nail polish and cosmetics, to stationery goods, to jewelry, clothing, to cafe items hot and cold and drinks, well you get the picture. Their cafe items and pastries are quite good. Along with bakery items, I did buy nail polish and a... More

I enjoyed shopping at Hema. You can find anything from household items, stationeries, accessories, clothing to food items at a relatively affordable price. Visitors could also enjoy breakfast/tea time treats for EUR 1-5. Clean toilets are readily available at Hema too. Great place for families.

Staying in Centrum

Neighbourhood Profile
Centrum
Amsterdam’s buzzing hub, with its sprawling network of tram rails and a seemingly constant flow of tourists and commuters, yields convenient access to some of the best sightseeing, shopping, and street life in Europe. Closest at hand are the Royal Palace, the quaint shops of Haalremmerdijk, the pedestrianized zones Kalverstraat and Dam Square with popular neighborhoods such as the Red Light District, and the Canal Ring hardly more than a moment’s stroll away. With the well-connected Centraal Station as Centrum’s base, it's easy to travel farther afield via one of the city’s iconic trams.
