We visited in November when the weather was cold. As there were fewer boats cruising the canals, we had far great opportunity to stop the boat and take photographs. There are many bars and cafes that all deserve a visit!

Take a canal tour and experience it. Such a beautiful area to view from a boat. The difference between seeing it by walking compared to by boat is night and day

Prinsengracht is 1 of the 3 principle canals that make up the UNESCO World Heritage - Grachtengordel, a semi-circular group of parallel canals that form the Canal Ring in the city centre of Amsterdam. We recently visited Amsterdam and very much enjoyed quite a few walks along Prinsengracht. This is the outer most of Grachtengordel, it is a beautiful canal... More

Amazing canal, one of the last of city centre. Full of nice building, it's included in most of the Canal Tours which is probably the best way to enoy it.

A beautiful area to visit - whether wandering or on a canal cruise. Like all canals, it is beautiful and makes for some great photos.

The canals go on for ever each one has its own scenery and history. The only way to see Amsterdam is by boat and then you can locate the places to see. Time is of the essence in the city as there is never enough to see everything in a single visit. This is another lovely area in the city... More

We took a canal cruise in a small boat... less than 8 people. It was more intimate and allowed access into some of the smaller neighborhoods. Our company was Open Boat tours, the captain/ guide was very good.

We took a canal cruise our first morning in town. I highly recommend it to get the lay of the land or canal. Later we went back and walked around. We always felt safe. Lots of people wondering around. Careful of the bikes.

Staying in Canal Ring (Grachtengordel)

Neighbourhood Profile
Canal Ring (Grachtengordel)
This UNESCO World Heritage Site is as historically significant as it is perennially popular. Whether you’re a history buff, architecture enthusiast, shutterbug, or fashionista, odds are you’ll find the Amsterdam you're looking for while roaming around the Grachtengordel (Canal Ring). A brilliant place to get lost in a moody meander and a key component to any sightseeing trip to Amsterdam, this area's major draws include the Anne Frank House, the Bloemenmarkt floating flower market, an enviable assortment of independent boutiques along De Negen Straatjes, and of course all of Grachtengordel’s lovely canals and bridges.
