This area in the oldest part of Amsterdam is known for the red neon windows that display barely-dressed prostitutes advertising their services; it's all perfectly acceptable as long as it stays inside this designated area of the city.

We wandered through mid afternoon as everyone tells you that you should visit, when in Amsterdam. The women behind glass doors angling for clients was quite sad. Although many people talk about how 'empowering' it is that women have a choice it just seemed rather...More

Amazing to see during the day when the crowds of sauced bachelor party groups are wandering about- amusing but raucous in the night when you are attempting to enjoy the delights of a companion or two behind a thin glass door and ever important curtain....More

Not seedy as most "red light" streets are...always loads of people and nothing weird...I guess if you want it you can find it but if you're not looking it's not in your face...

Very overcrowded area of the city. Heaving with groups of men and voyeurs. Otherwise a fascinating area.

Dragged along after nearly 15 years since the last time I shuffled around this den of depravity.IT'S CHANGED😲.The streets are cleaner for a start, the skanky looking scrawny hippies are no where near as numerous, most coffee shops are upbeat and trendy and during the daylight it's...More

This really is a one of a kind place, A real eye opener but a definite must see. The streets come alive at night with a hive of activity and surprisingly good atmosphere. We didn't feel uncomfortable once and would go again.

Went there on early Saturday evening. A lot of tourists everywhere. It's a place everyone "must go". I don't think it is something very special to see, but off course it is something that Amsterdam is known to have. I would say that one should...More

To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the
Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its
saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to
view some of the city’s most picturesque canals,
historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples
of traditional local architecture – not to mention

There's a lot to do in Amsterdam and a lot of beautiful things to see so avoid red light there's really no point and have a walk between the canals all around the town.

Fridays and Saturdays the district is packed, it gets a tiny bit quieter on Sundays, even in high season, so it would definitely make sense. Besides, following the pack, touring the neighborhood caravan-style up and down the... More
