About
The Anne Frank House (Dutch: Anne Frank Huis) is a museum dedicated to Jewish wartime diarist Anne Frank. The building is located on a canal called the Prinsengracht, close to the Westerkerk, in central Amsterdam in the Netherlands. As a visitor, you experience this story through a audio tour, quotes, photos, videos, and original items. The Anne Frank House can only be visited with an online ticket for a specific date and time.

Neighbourhood: Centrum
Amsterdam’s buzzing hub, with its sprawling network of tram rails and a seemingly constant flow of tourists and commuters, yields convenient access to some of the best sightseeing, shopping, and street life in Europe. Closest at hand are the Royal Palace, the quaint shops of Haalremmerdijk, the pedestrianized zones Kalverstraat and Dam Square with popular neighborhoods such as the Red Light District, and the Canal Ring hardly more than a moment’s stroll away. With the well-connected Centraal Station as Centrum’s base, it's easy to travel farther afield via one of the city’s iconic trams.

Housing Emotions, one Room at a Time!
Easily, the Anne Frank House was the highlight of our Amsterdam trip. Pre book in advance obviously, because the slots are filled up soon. You can start booking two months before your actual visit in order to escape long queues. You are giving a particular time slot to visit this iconic attraction. Come half an hour before your actual visit. However, I would emphasize and state that you should club your ticket with THE INTRODUCTORY PROGRAM at a nominal cost. The benefit of the introductory program is that it sets the momentum for the emotional visit. A lot of people may not know the entire history and the backdrop of the Anne Frank House; so listening to the person narrating the tale with pictures can keep you in the right mindset, before you proceed with the actual houdse tour. The tour takes 2 hours, as you absorb the poignant story with pictures, furniture, bedroom, bathroom, bookshelf of the actual house. While some furniture may have needed sprucing up to keep up with changing time, many things like stairs, bathrooms, the moving cupboard with the secret door, the hiding place... are just the way they were in the original house. In winter, when the lines are fewer, you can feel more relaxed going through the house. Do keep in mind, that there are steep stairs, but they are not dangerous, if you keep your eyes open. Anne Frank House has some of the best audio guides among many museums that I have visited, with the right tonality and good blending with the quotes and scripts on the display. You are left in a daze with the Frank Story as you leave the house. Anne Frank Story is a personification of what independence really means to an individual. Don't miss this piece of history cradled in the Second World War. What happened with the Frank Family is sure to shock you, if you already don't know about it. At the end, there is a little program with celebrities and eminent personalities talking about Anne Frank. Lastly, this is one of the rare museums that keeps you hooked, even after you leave the place. At first, I was a little pissed with the fact that taking photos were not allowed in this museum. But I think that this is the best decision ever. Because the effect would have been diluted with people missing the finer details by focusing more on repeated camera clicks, as it is the norm in so many places.

A must if you are in Amsterdam
Recommend that you buy tickets a month or two in advance, especially during the summer months. A thought provoking, sobering experience as you walk around the building where Anne Frank and her family & friends secretly hid for two years. There is no furniture but an exhibit in miniature to show you what it was like. There are still Anne's posters of film stars etc on the wall, some faded but they're original and protected. You walk through all the rooms apart from the attic, but they have a mirror so you can see the chestnut tree mentioned in Anne's diary.

    Must do in Amsterdam
I read the diaries over three years ago but it is a story you never forget. Seeing the stark reality of their lives was a definite eye opener. We visited early afternoon on New Years Eve and it wasn't overly busy. Don't forget tickets can only be purchased online and are released a month beforehand, with a small number released on the date. The free audio guides, in a number of languages, give you a fantastic insight as you move through the various rooms. It is amazing how many authentic details and artifacts from the time have been preserved.

After reading the Anne Frank book as a child I thought that I knew what I would see. Not even close. To walk through the small dark rooms where this girl and family hid for two years is a gut punch. Incomprehensible the fear that they lived in. The organization that cares for this has done a great job preserving and educating.
If you plan to go you must get your tickets well in advance from their site.
You also need to be able to walk multiple extremely narrow and steep stairs

Must do experience, but sells out fast so buy tickets as soon as you can and get the ticket with the introductory tour. The woman who ran our one hour introductory tour was excellent, she is a high school teacher and told us many facts that made the tour even more meaningful. The one hour program takes places in a private room where you are seated and can see Ann Frank’s room from the courtyard. Once we were done with introductory program, we received audio tour and walked through museum on our own. Try to get a tour earlier in the day as the lines inside to go from room to room get longer as the day goes on. Use the toilets by the audio your handout area before you start because it is hard to get to the bathroom once going through house. You will need to climb stairs on this tour. It was well worth the money and I highly recommend.

The Anne Frank house is extraordinary. Encased by a modern structure, the minute I walked into the actual house the enormity of what happened here and how the people lived was very sobering. The tour is a timed entry. Be sure to make your online reservations as soon as they are available! You will be given an audio guide that is very good. The tour encompasses the entire house, and you will find in the rooms photos, maps, and other original materials. A word of warning--the stairs are extremely steep and narrow. I'm not sure that a person with a mobility challenge could make them easily. At the end of the tour there is a small Holocaust museum along with other personal effects of the Franks. By all means, put this on your list of places to see in Amsterdam, and be sure to plan for it well in advance.

Absolutely fascinating bit of history, do not forget the audio guide otherwise you will miss so much of the experience.

Also tickets are release each week for 6 weeks or so in advance so don't forget to book as they usually sell out.

Well worth a visit, very well organised and popular. If you are not fully fit and able bodied you will struggle with the steps (steep and narrow). Tragic story behind the tour of course and makes you question humans and their ability to be utter shites.

Softly moving, this really tells the story well. There is some amazing original material and pictures, and the whole place is paced really well. A fascinating insight and very reasonably priced.

Booking essential!

We arrived at our hotel in Amsterdam late afternoon on the 26th of August which allowed us enough time to have a meal and head over to the Anne Frank House for our allotted time slot of 6:45 - 7:00 PM. You must order your tickets online since they do not sell tickets on site. People were being turned away since they didn't know you can only purchase tickets online. This is a audio, self guided tour of the rooms where the Frank's remained in hiding for two years. Each room is filled with pictures of how it looked and rooms are identified by kitchen, bedroom and whose room it was etc. Steps are steep but so worth the effort. You can't help but be moved by what you are experiencing. The rooms are empty but again there are pictures and audio describing what was going on at the time and who the individuals are.

The timed tickets must be bought early - released 6 weeks ahead of the date! The museum is small and intimate. It is well done and progresses thru Anne's life till her end. They seem to keep the museum uncrowded which is appreciated (Van Gohg Museum hello?). It has such a large impact on your psyche considering how small the place is.

We did the tour with the extra 30 minute presentation on the front end. Our tour guide was so informative and expressive. The house, along with the audio tour was heartbreaking and inspiring at the same time.
