The Overloon War Museum is the biggest WWII museum in The Netherland. Right...

The Overloon War Museum is the biggest WWII museum in The Netherland. Right here, the tank battle of Overloon unfolded in the autumn of 1944. The village of Overloon was totally devestated back then. In order to remember the casualties and victims of that episode the museum was founded in 1946, even before the village was rebuilt. Nowadays over 100,000 people visit the museum every year. The first exhibition is about the occupation of The Netherlands from 1940 till 1945. The second large exhibition, displayed on 10.000 m2, contains over 150 military vehicles and artillery, both from allied forces and German. In addition to these two main exhibitions there are several smaller presentations, of which the Battle at Overloon presentation is definitely worth a visit. A museum restaurant and a shop completes this museum, which can be found in the so called Liberty Park in Overloon.

The size and scope of the exhibits is amazing. Any history buff of WWII will find it well worth the drive or train ride to come here. Enormous variety of military vehicles is found here. Take the time to read the displays although many are only in Dutch or German. Audio in English is also available at many of the... More

I travelled to Overloon by the excellent NS Dutch railways. The station for Overloon is remote to say the least but it was not to hard to walk to the village. The museum is well signposted and the displays are laid out very well indeed. For a world war 2 armour dweeb like me this is a wonderful place. All manner of German and... Hello Chris, thanks a lot for your kind words. It is very unfortunate that you got off the train at the Vierlingsbeek train station. The best option for everybody who's planning on getting here by train is to go to the Boxmeer train station and get on bus #84 in the direction of Venray. There is a bus stop close... More

Because of my son's interest in the subject, we've visited many war museums & memorials from Bastogne to Normandy to Verdun, and we can attest to the Oorlogsmuseum in Overloon, NL being one of the best. The vast collection of vehicles include tanks, jeeps, planes, & motorcycles from a variety of countries (but mostly US) in addition to displays of... More

Hello Annette, Thanks a lot for your comment and the suggestions. Good to hear that you all have enjoyed the exhibitions. As fas as the English language is concerned, we are currently busy realising a wifi distribution of all the information and I'm sorry we did not have it in place when you were here. It'll take another couple of... More

This is a good example of a war museum. Quiet, reflective grounds on the site of a pivotal 2nd world war battle, a good history walk with some nice memorabelia, a number of interactive activities and lots of military vehicles. The kid's and the men will love it.

We were looking for a day out while on a late summer break in Holland. I searched for something to do and found this museum. My wife and I spent roughly 4 1/2 hours looking round as there is about 200 military vehicles from the wars. It was very informative with plenty to see and do for a whole family.... More

This is a nice museum that tells an important story of the battle at Overloon and other battles as well. A lot of army vehicles, some aircraft and some multimedia presentations.

A very good museum, has lots of military vehicles ranging over several decades. Has a second part based more on world war 2 which is good although most of the literature is in Dutch. If going allow 4 hours for visit. Small British war cemetry nearby.

At €15 this is not cheap to enter but according to information in the museum it is 99% self funded and good value at that. When we visited the original entrance looks to have been closed presumably meaning you can visit the park without going in to the museum. However, the main exhibits are all indoors. The museum naturally caters... More

It is a great museum I have visited yearly for past 6-7 years with children. Family ticket is good value. As soon as my son turned 13 he has to be charged adult. This means €54 ie about £50 currently, as family ticket will not cover that. Sorry but this great museum is not worth that. Most other museums are... More
