should go here when in the city, very nice, interesting history. Enjoyed walking around that took me away from the busy buzzing town center.

Tranquil, short visit
Aug 2020 • Friends
We were here but a few minutes as it doesn’t demand much more, but this is time enough to take in the quiet surroundings and aesthetically pleasing terraced cottages. It’s a well-maintained herb garden and thirteenth-century convent next to Park Valkenberg. Elderly female residents still live here to this day.

Beautiful, peaceful and very interesting history
Feb 2020
The Begijnhof is a beautiful spot for a short visit. I was there during the winter, so the gardens were dormant, but I imagine it's amazing during spring and summer. It's easy to walk past and miss the gateway, but there's a lot of local information to let you know exactly where to find it. It's quiet and peaceful, and has a very interesting history going back for centuries. There's a small museum (2 Euro entry cost) with a short video available in both English and Nederlander languages. The museum shows how the Beguins lived when the Begijnhof was still active. You don't need to enter the museum just to visit the grounds, though. The grounds are open for visiting, but be aware that women do still live in the apartments, and quiet wandering is appreciated. The chapel is not open to walk into, but you can step inside the door and look through a glass partition to see it. It's quite lovely.

Nice place tot relax in the summer
Aug 2019
The nuns used to live here in the past and some still are. Very lovely houses, people are still living here so it is best to be quiet. Lovely plase to relax, also less hot in the summer and close to the centre and park.

Beguinage as it should be
Aug 2019
Though the Flander beguinages are UNESCO World Heritage they are certainly not all so quaint and tidy as this one. It has been upgraded a bit lately with two small museums and the church is now at least to be viewed from the inside (through a glass door).
It houses single women and rumours are that the bisshop will offer the larger building to real nuns. Still it gives you the feeling of a tranquil spot beyond the busy city centre life. There are no benches to relax and enjoy the silence. On a Saturday afternoon it can be 'crowded' so avoid those days for the best experience.

when you're in Breda (the Netherlands) there is a lot more than the shops to see !
Aug 2019
one of the most atmospheric Beguinage in Belgium and the Netherlands together, the Museum is small, beautiful, informative and more than worth a visit! the lady at the reception gave a good and thorough explanation of the day-to-day life of the beguines. What makes the Beguinage even more special is that the houses are only offered for rent to single ladies. continue to honor the Beguine issue.

Tranquil space
May 2019 • Couples
We did not go into the house portion of the museum however we did stroll through the gardens of the Begijnhof. Very lovely tranquil space and you get a feeling of peace as you stroll through. Please keep in mind that this is still a residential area so you need to respect the residents. Peaceful space in Breda

Women's old and modern living
Jun 2019 • Family
The place holds a superb kitchen garden in old style and is a place for silence.
Living here mimicks previous centuries: you have to adapt your (female) life style to the rules of the community.
The community's internal church is intact and a wonder of mind-piece. Take a view through the glass door!

Outside is the 'Waalse' church, currently independent of the Begijnenhof, and also recommended to visit.

Interesting film
Apr 2019 • Couples
It’s 2euro entry to go into the house where the ‘nuns’ or begga used to live . There is a 14 minute film mainly about the last begga who died in 1990 . This was a 700 year old tradition whereby the bagga could leave service and married if she preferred . Probably a good idea for the Catholic Church to learn from as many priests in damaging allegations .
Courtyard outside peaceful where unmarried women still live .
