Incredible interior
Aug 2020 • Friends
This really is a stunning Gothic and Nassau inspired church. Entry is free and there are many tombs and memorials to ancestors of the Dutch royal family. Some areas of the exterior are undergoing maintenance but the inside is unaffected and quite brilliant.

Found a matter of feet from Breda Grote Markt.

Great.

Very nice indeed to be back in Breda - which has always been my favourite City in the Nertherlands - drastically underrated.

Had a walk round it, with some others - great architecture, and it always look impressive when illuminated by the Sun.

Truly represents the very heart of Breda.

lovely Gothic church
Aug 2019 • Solo
Beautiful Catholic Architecture though i’ve seen somethings that has largely displeased me about the Our Dear Lady church the barbarism of the Calvinist heretics brutally desecrating this sacred art work but that was a long time ago but what does however get to me is the church it’s use it’s being rented out for parties and events They perform commercial consumerism inside this sacred place of worship

need I say there is only one time our Lord Jesus got angry that was when he visited the temple and people were performing commercialism at the temple that he made a whipe and kicked them al out stating “Do Not make my fathers house in a lair of thieves”

when I saw this commercialism party events a DJ booth party lights
people dancing it got me sick to the stomach i condone such heresy and lack of Respect these tiles are grave stones and they are marching over and dam in on peoples graves how utterly disrespectful
the church is a marvellous church i stand i. awe but the disrespect is unacceptable behaviour

the church has an incredible feel of history, going back at least 700 years. The Dutch Royal family, the Nassau-Orange, seem to have their cradle in Breda and specifically in this church

Large church in the center of Breda
Oct 2019
The "Grote of Onze Lieve Vrouwenkerk" is a large historic church in the center of Breda. Entrance is free; a voluntary gift is asked for. As I am spoiled by the churches in Italy, my impression of this church was that the building is large and cool inside, but no religious art. History shows us, that this Catholic church was victim of the Iconoclasm in the 16th century and was for a long period a Protestant church. That's why this church isn't richly decorated as Catholic churches which escaped this fate. Furthermore, heavy maintenance was carried out on the outside of the church, featuring a mobile crane, which reached the top of the clock tower. See the pictures added to this review.

one of the most beautiful churches. Fine piece of architecture
Sep 2019
I live in Breda and I can tell you that this church is a very important part of it.
Beautiful and mystical.
You can visit the church and even climb it, a lot of stairs but eventually when you make it almost to the top you have a beautiful view over Breda.
Really great.
When you sit on a terrace in Breda town ( grote markt ) enjoying your food or drink and you hear the sound of the carillonneur playing on a hight point in the church than you experience that special Breda feeling.

Big church in center of Breda. Free entrance, except the tower.
Nice to walk in the church.
It doesn't take a lot of time to visit it, so when you pass by, you have to visit it

Majestic church, which is a cool, oasis of peace and quiet.
Aug 2019
A truly magnificent piece of architecture and worth while to visit. The building is from limestone so is in need of restoration - external and internal. Inside is cool and quiet and you can see the restoration of the wall paintings and the ceiling are very impressive.

Admission is free with a request for a euro donation to help the costs of the restoration work.

Nice church
May 2019 • Couples
The Grote church is a lovely church mostly from the outside. Unfortunately the interior of the church is lacking it's original charm due to historical events when much of the splendor of the interior was destroyed during the Reformation. However the lovely organ and ceilings are intact and are a site to behold.

Serene atmosphere in middle of town
Apr 2019 • Solo
This church is in the middle of a catholic town and surrounded by nice restaurants and cafes. Pop in for a visit and enjoy the serene atmosphere and special light coming through the windows. Loop up at the ceiling at the paintings.
