Always a great family activity
Oct 2020
We had done The Resistance in 2019, and this time we did the Cell Block escape room. For our family of 5, with three teenagers, these are always a good time. The staff at Best Escape are great and the puzzles are first rate. The Cell Block had an extra something I will not give away, but after having done many of these over the past, I can only say it was the first time that we had to do this particular kid of action to progress. We had a very fun time and finished 8 minutes before time was up. Looking forward to doing the remaining rooms when we can!

Sky Shaker
Jul 2018 • Friends
We played Sky Shaker with a group of 3, we don't call ourselves experts but we have all played a few escape rooms before. We must say this was possibly the most frustrating experience so far (needless to say we didn't escape on time).
Let's start with the good stuff. The idea of the room and the decoration is quite good. It is also really appreciated that it is not a room that relies massively on locks, and some puzzles were really inventive and original!
Some suggestions that we think could improve the experience:
- Would be great to advise on the website the level of difficulty of the room. As said before, we are not beginners but also not experts, so we always aim for some medium difficulty. We only learnt after the game that this was the most difficult one (we noticed it quite quickly) with a very low escape rate. We mentioned this to the game master at the end of our game and he was quite sure this is mentioned on the website, so if it is the case (we still haven’t found it), I would suggest to make it more visible.
- Also advise that the players need to bring *something* with them. Without giving too many spoilers: I know it's unlikely for people in 2018 to not have such thing, but you never know (and it could be that the players bring *that thing* but not prepared for the game).
- We asked in advance for the game to be in English and it is advertised as such; most of the things on the game were translated but there was one document and one of the hints on the screen necessary to solve a puzzle that were not translated from Dutch. We had a Dutch speaker in our group who could help, but this may be an issue for groups of only foreigners.
- There were a couple of objects that were not related to the game and not necessary at all and just left there by accident, which was a bit misleading as we tried to use them to solve certain puzzles. This could have been due to the fact that the room was not ready when we arrived and was not properly cleaned up? Also some items necessary to support you in the game were not fully operational and should have been checked before (again won’t give spoilers).
- Some of the elements that were necessary to complete one of the last puzzles were a bit worn out and it was very difficult to even see what was written on them (and they didn’t fit smoothly, which made us think we were doing it wrong).
- A certain level of previous knowledge was required… this wasn’t an issue for us thankfully but you never know the background of the visitors, so if one of the puzzles requires identifying things related to countries it may be good to add some extra support in the room itself (an atlas, poster or geography book, for example).
- In general we thought the logic between the puzzles wasn’t very clear. There is a lot of information already at the very beginning of the game, and the transition from one puzzle to the other is not always very clear. We spent a lot of time just trying to guess what to do with certain pieces of information.
- I also think the hints could have been a bit more timely – by the way it would be great to have a sound every time you show a new hint on the screen, if you are busy somewhere else in the room you easily miss what is shown on the screen (which is not always a hint).

Overall, with some attention to the above points in the room and with some more clear indications around the difficulty level this is possibly a really nice room for experienced players, but I cannot say we enjoyed our time a lot, not due to the fact we did not escape (which has happened before and it was still fun!), but because we simply left with a feeling of frustration due to the mismatched expectations we had and some of the issues mentioned.

Nice room

We played cellblock 9 with 5 friends and escaped :) the room was very nicely designed with fun puzzels. The puzzels were very versatile and always in the theme of the room. Even the emails were thematic. Overall a nice room. The only downside was the crew who was not very enthousiast.

This was our 5th room, but by far the best room.

Very good room, the puzzles are well thought out with nice special effects.
It was worth the 130km's from Brussels to Maastricht.

Thank you and we cannot wait for the 2nd room to be ready!

Cool room

I have done many rooms in Amsterdam and abroad. Compared to these rooms, this room looks great (clean, tidy, well organized) and had a good storyline. If you like escape rooms and are in Maastricht I can safely recommend this room!

That escape game was creative , but it was super difficult. I think it's need at least 90 min.

I tried it with my family, but we run out of time and didn't escape
