218 steps to the top but the views are amazing The Red Tower on the Vrifhof. Church is different and may be over shadow by the basilica next door. Lots of thing to look at Old but looks modern

We just followed the red tower from the square. The church is a bit different from all others but still pretty to visit.

The church has many beautiful carved plaques on the floor commemorating rich patrons that have died. The best part of the church is climbing the 228 steps up the narrow spiral staircase to the top of the tower for a beautiful view of the city...More

St Janskerk’s attraction is the red tower, originally coloured by paintings multiple coats of ox blood today it is painted a similar red. The glorious outside is a contrast to the austere, plan interior although is no less peaceful, there is a spiritual tranquility. For...More

Climbed the tower. Well worth the effort as the views were amazing. Well worth the effort. Fortunately there were not many visitors when we visited.

Sint John's Church plays second fiddle to the popular Basilica St. Servatius located beside it on Vrijthof city square. The drawing point for photographers is its 15th century red tower, a vivid color contrast to the gold and grey stone, now rather blackened, used on...More

We did not do the tower due to the weather but the inside was pretty plain indeed. No stained glass windows though the outside was pretty enough. the red tower was added a century after the original building - hence the odd clash of colours.

Sint Janskerk is a MUSt if you are in Maastricht. On a nice day, take the spiral stairs up the tower ( 219 steps ) and reward yourself with fantastic views of the city of Maastricht. Better go in the afternoon so the sun will...More

The Tower was not open when we visited. The church is quite plain inside - so I wouldn’t bother to visite. But it is worth seeing from the outside because of the unusual (and beautiful) colour.

I was not aware of the possibility of being able to go up the tower to check the view. I just discovered it now when reading the reviews. Maybe it is not communicated so upfront so you better try to find the right entrance. However...More
