Nijmegen’s best known bridge
Aug 2020 • Friends
We got excellent views of all Nijmegen’s bridges as we travelled in from 's-Hertogenbosch, especially Waalbrug above the Waal, a branch of the Rhine. It’s located near many small beaches and the area appears to be a popular spot especially during good weather. Apparently the bridge is over six-hundred metres long and of course it played a part to operations during World War II.

Historical significance
May 2019 • Couples
While this bridge is not the oldest one you will see in Europe nor the most beautiful, however it's the historical significance of this bridge that makes it worth seeking out. Definitely interesting to see and learn about it's history during the war.

1936 Arch bridge
Mar 2019 • Solo
An arch bridge of which there are many in the Netherlands, though this one is rather special because the two pylons carry the full weight of the arch. During the time of its opening in 1936 it was the longest of its kind in Europe (604m). It replaced the ferry.

Perhaps because of its proximity to Nijmegen's city center the 65m high bridge has become like an icon and maybe also a symbol of toughness because of the historic success of the allied forces in capturing the bridge intact during the last stage of WOII.

I really love this bridge - a real sense of history. It's beautiful especially at night. Great views of the Waal too when you walk across.

Historic Bridge
Aug 2018 • Solo
A beautiful bridge with a lot of history. It will be painted next year, so take your pictures now! There will be only one lane of traffic, so it will be a challenge to drive over this bridge. The best view is from the waal kade. But if you take the “pancake boat” for a tour on the river, you have the best view ever!

Historic bridge
Apr 2018 • Family
It's not the most amazing of bridges, but it has major historical importance. It's NOT the main bridge in A Bridge Too Far (that one is in Arnhem), but it is also relevant due to the Operation Market Garden.

Nice to go here to see the river and the beaches.
