Work of Art and Toy for Children
Sep 2019
This work by Florentijn Hofman is a gift to Arnhem by Burger's Zoo celebrating its 100 years of existence. Hofman is perhaps most well known for his Rubber Duck, Especially in Asia they love them. In Hongkong there is a huge one (14m high). Size-wise this aardvark in Arnhem is even bigger, 30m in length. The aardvark though, is a nocturnal animal and fewer people know how it really looks. The specimen in Arnhem is getting home from a party (note the golden party hat) and probably drunk too much.

Great for children to scramble over. The sand all around is less appreciated, but an aardvark is a burrowing animal so they will have to take the sand for granted.

Party animal!
Aug 2019
The 'party aardvark' is fun if you're nearby. Yes, it really is a big aardvark who's tired after having had a blast, and what's not to like about that? You can climb on it, though the sign says in Dutch that it's at your own risk. It's near several shops and cafes, so if you have a few extra minutes to walk past it will put a smile on your face.

Still comfused

I was staying in Hilton opposite this and wondered why the city had chosen to install a large scale dead dragon in the square. The response I got was this is an aardvark and not a dragon. On reflection this did not seem like an actual answer I therefore pressed on with a follow-up question about why they have a dead aardvark in the city center? Next response is that it was not dead, just on its way back from a good party, as evidenced by the fact it is wearing a party hat. Had to go back to confirm...but it is actually wearing a pointy hat...so had to accept that one. Still not totally happy I asked “why...” to a different person and they told me that it had been given to the city by the Burger Zoo. Not sure if a burger zoo is a thing. Guess I will never know

Super sculpture

This Feestaardvarken is one of the reasons I love the Netherlands. This belly-up beast is a cute, funny, eye-catching, landmark sculpture that kids love to play on. In the middle of the city. It attracts attention and makes you feel happy.

Stopped here whilst walking by - fun gigantic sculpture to climb on. Be careful as it has sand in it and was slippery. Kids would love it.

Nice community space

We visited the Aardvark which was developed in front of the library and finished some years ago. Seems like it would be a nice place for kids to gather during the spring and summer.

An odd curiosity worth a quick look and a photo but nothing special.

This landmark sculpture, since it was gifted to the City of Arnhem by the Burger's Zoo, is worth a curious look and a photo or two but other than that it does not justify a great deal of your tourism time... There is plenty of other things worth spending your time on in Arnhem.

I haappen to stay right next to this creature which was a present from the zoo to the city. Lots of kids play on it, something different . Located near the market, bit messy around the monument. I would not go too much out of my way to visit it.
