This Bronbeek is functioning as elderly house for old soldiers who served KNIL (Royal Netherlands Indonesian Army). Several ex-soldiers still living here. The museum gives a good overview of the period of KNIL in Indonesia with lot of attributes used in that period. The park around is well maintained and located in a very nice area of Arnhem, not far... More

Go see the oldtime warrior from colonial army wearing their beautiful unifiorms....but hurry.....only few veterans left. Very impressive brass canons and artefacts from former Dutch Indonesia including large butterfly collection on clipboards. Afterwards take a walk to the park and its famous Indonesian style restaurant for a good meal of nasi goreng or nasi rames etc.

Visited the museum as part of a birthday party at the adjacent restaurant. Interesting history of Indonesia and Dutch colonialism. The museum is well presented and tells the story well in Dutch and English. The grounds and restaurant are also good. I learnt a lot from the visit which having worked in Jakarta a few times filled in the gaps... More

First, if you are coming from the main road to the left of the grounds, you must make a very sharp turn between metal gates into the complex. For us, this required backing up one time and trying again. Once inside it is really not clear exactly which building is the museum. There are lots of Dutch signs and medical... More

Is an elderly home for retired single soldiers from the Dutch colonial army. Most residents are in their nineties. It also functions as a colonial museum. Next to the main building is a Indonesian restaurant, Kumpulan. Recommendable.

This is an interesting museum about rebellions and wars in the Dutch East Indies, what is now Indonesia. Besides many stories, there are many items on display, mostly weaponry such as huge cannon barrels, daggers (krissen), regular guns, etc. There are some nice paintings too. Outdoors there are many stones commemmorating fallen soldiers and citizens, e.g. those who died working... More

Nice museum, great collection. Lift for wheelchairs quite small. Went with a group elderly people. Noticed many had difficulties to read information from a wheelchair. More information should be readable at different eye heights... It is a nice .ides to create a showcase in the trunk of a tree, f.i. , but it really limits its viewers. Museum is very... More

Good museum what takes you back to the time of the Nederlands Indië and the time of the KNIL (Koninklijk Nederlands Indië Leger). Learn about the Dutch history in Indonesia.

Museums on the subject of the colonialism of Dutch East Indies, AKA Indonesia, is somewhat a complicated design with the possiblity of being rife with subjectivity and propaganda. You can easily see this in numerous history museums in Indonesia and the Netherlands. This is where Bronbeek Museum stands out amongst the other of its kinds for offering an objective view... More
