Our party of 4 did the day tour of Zurich from Lucerne. This tour was extremely disappointing for several reasons - a lack of description on the website, a lack of knowledge on the guide’s part, and a lack of consideration on the part of the guide for the people in the party. Nowhere in the description details did it directly say that this was a walking tour. Knowing whether it would be a walking tour or involve a car would have been helpful. The tour guide did not provide any interesting history or facts about Zurich or, even Switzerland, and he was not cognizant of the needs of the guests on his tour. I have learned more from taxi or car service drivers that have more knowledge than I experienced on this tour. I expected more expertise and a better guide for the price that we paid. We emailed Swiss Travel Guide twice and never received a response or acknowledgement of our concerns. More than likely, we will never book a tour through Viator or recommend Swiss Travel Guide, the tour operator, for any tour due to the concerns that we had.

We've been many times to Switzerland but until this year never to Zurich. To put this right whilst staying in an apartment at Brienz we caught the Central Bahn to Lucerne, via the Brinnig Pass then one of the very frequent commuter trains to Zurich. Approaching the city along the beautiful bank of the Zurichsee was quite worth the trip of its own merits but the city itself proved quite something too. Unusually, I hadn't done much homework so we arrived a little lost of where we might go but set on seeing the Old Town which I knew was near the lake shores and alongside the River Limmat. Unusually there was no town map to be found near the rail platforms so we asked a city gent snacking by one of the numerous bars which way to the lake. He directed us to the bridge just outside the station and then to bear right down the far side of the river where we would eventually reach the lakeside. This we did, after first purchasing two rather splendid tartes from a superb confectionary shop within the station. Just before reaching the lake we crossed over the bridge adjacent to the medieval rathaus. Drawn towards a fine gothic enifice which turned out to be the church where the 'first' Protestant was once the Priest, Swingl himself! Mentor of Luther, known to John Knox, etc.. History abounds! After viewing the rather plain inside with the only real item of note being the wonderful Chagal East window above the altar we ventured into the plaza outside and continued towards the lake. After a very short gaze over the waters we decided the day needed to be cut short in order to return thro Lucerne to Brienz so we hopped on the first tramcar which seemed to be going towards the station along Hoptbahnhof strasse! Very quickly our day at Zurich ended but we are resolved to return God willing!
