The National Museum enjoys a central position just a minute’s walk from the main railway station in Zurich. The museum is one of the attractions of this city on the River Limmat. Gustav Gull’s listed building from the 19th century has been extended with the addition of a new building designed by architects Christ & Gantenbein and completed in summer 2016. The museum showcases the history of Switzerland from its early beginnings until the present day in the permanent exhibitions “Archaeology in Switzerland”, “History of Switzerland” and “Collections Gallery”. Every year, there are also several temporary exhibitions and an impressive fringe programme, offering everything from debates to workshops.

You can tell why the cost to enter is 10 CHF when you see the innovative and creative ways the museum uses technology to teach - although the museum is free with a Zurich Card. While we were a bit museum-d out when we arrived,...More

I have never been in a museum with so much interactivity, clean crisp displays, and volumes of information made very simple and easy to follow. The displays invite the viewer to step into the history and explore. There is a variety of displays from the...More

Great museum although not a huge array of things, however what they did have was extremely interesting. Even having a selection of languages to select from was a plus. They even have a great gift shop

we enjoyed our time at the Landesmuseum (National Museum) and of course, there is never enough time to see everything. The special exhibit had to do with the history of the Einsiedeln Abbey and how it changed over the ages. I think there is a...More

Well organised museum, good technologies used in the museum to display exhibits, lot of things to learn on Swiss history, some interactive exhibits perhaps more than you want to know about Swiss history. No entrance fee if you have Swiss pass, otherwise you have to...More

This museum is beautifully organized and you learn through some interactive exhibits perhaps more than you want to know about Swiss history. Of particular interest to me were the Swiss figures, Zwingli and Calvin who were central to the Protestant reformation. Other active exhibits were...More

I know that I am late to answer, but I would like to add that if the lockers at the museum are not large enough to hold your bag - the train/bus station is just across the street. They have lockers for bags as well.
