Entry was expensive but hey all swiss museums do that don't they? The art is from lesser known swiss artists. Good paintings and some really interesting work.

Especially the Caspar David Friedrichs are an asset to this museum but also other artists from various époques of European art history are well represented. This museum is among the best in Switzerland.

Mostly lesser known Swiss artists. Interesting,as a visitor, to gain an insight into Switzerland as the Swiss see it. Quiet, on a weekday, and well worth a visit.

Expensive museum (like most place in Switzerland), but definitely worth the visit. A nice variety of paintings from the dedicated collector. If you have to choose one place to visit, I would definitely recommend this one.

We went here after first visiting the Kunstmuseum and wished we had skipped that in favour of this one. There was just too much to see and we wanted more time and energy! Tickets were on the steeper side but were definitely worth it, there were several floors and many rooms with so many paintings it was hard to take it all in. Despite the text all being in German we could make out a few words and could imagine that if you are a fluent speaker you would be able to spend even longer here. The paintings were beautiful, many scenic landscapes and some fabulous works by Dutch artists including some very good portraits. I would recommend this gallery for those serious about art as there is a lot to get through, however anyone with even a slight appreciation could walk through just having a look and it would still take up a good chunk of time. Well worth it.

Winterthur has 3 very relevant art museums. Oskar-Reinhardt has its collection split between the excellent "Am Romerholz" Villa and the city center located Musem. Tha also has a number of significant masterpieces and also hosts temporary exibitions. If you have time, the Musuem pass will help you reducing the costs and taking advantage of the Museum bus you will also be able to travel freely among the locations. Not to be missed.

Apart from the overwhelming richness of this collection, I was quite amazed with the temporary exhibition on Sigismund Rhigini, whose powerful use of colours and stylistic elements is quite interesting.

A few paintings (Hodler) and the miniatures were fun to see. Otherwise a lot of mediocre paintings not worth the day trip from Lucerne to see. The Clock Museum in town was much better. The special exhibit in September 2016 was not exciting. Apparently the best holdings are by advanced reservation only?

Oskar Reinhart Foundation Museum hosts an excellent collection of classic masters as well as less known Swiss painters. In my opinion, it's the best art museum in Winterthur so highly recommended to art lovers.

We enjoyed especially Hodler's ample selection of paintings. They span over several decades of the artist's life and show remarkble impressionist and neoimpressionist almost expressionist pieces of art. Anker is an excellent technician but his naturalist works don't bring much innovation but illustrations of the young Swiss state. Giovanni Giacometti is an outstanding user of colors and Valoton is Valoton. A few swiss friends regard Blocher's collection as political, This shows certain amount of disrespect to their own artists and a deep bias towards good art.
