Just nice way to tie a place to a story you heard as a child. Although the environment is not extraordinary taking a pic with Wilhelm Tell makes it worth a visit. And at the stores you can go buy some swiss memorabilia!

I read this story as child, now visiting the town itself and taking pictures with the book under the statue, super nice.

Well worth a short stop off as this giant impressive Bronze statue of the Swiss hero is impressive. The village itself is again worth some exploration and offers several decent shops and eating places.

We stopped in Altdorf while driving from Lugano to Zurich. One main reason for selecting Altdorf for stopover was to visit the bronze statue of the Swiss national hero Wilhelm Tell. Since it was on our route, it was definitely a worth visiting. Altdorf is for sure a lovely town to visit.

I thought it would be fun to stop in Altdorf because of the William Tell legacy but there wasn't much to do in the village and it wasn't very scenic either.

A marvellous larger the life statue of William Tell and his son and crossbow in the centre of Altdorf. Well worth a diversion to see this.

Having seen the monument in the town square, I had to look up the story from my childhood. Then later, I told the kids all about it!

Don't we all love the story of Wilhelm Tell? That's the reason why you can't just walk by his monument without taking a look and maybe a photo. The monument itself has not a great artistic appeal.
