Having done the Chateau de Tourbillon, we went up the other side to the Valere Basilica, this could have been interesting but much was closed for renovation so ultimately was actually less interesting than Chateau de Tourbillon.

I could see the landmark from the highway I was driving. I did not have proper footwear making my climb an arduous one. It has beautiful view of the town.

A beautiful 13th. Century old church set up on a small mountain in the center of the old castle area. Worth the hike. Sorry to say most was under renovations and reconstruction. Would and well be a beautiful church again when finished.

We had a guided tour of this place in German, lots of interesting facts and a visit to the treasury as a bonus. The basilica interior is under renovation so only half a place is to be seen. The views from the top are stunning, the museum in the castle is also captivating. It is well worth the climb! The ticket office ladies are competent and friendly.

It is a difficult walk up to get there, rough path and steep hill. Worth the effort though as it is an interesting old basilica. Not a huge amount to see in the basilica and it costs 8CHF to go into the museum. The views from the top are great, you can see all of Sion and there is a map showing you the various mountains you can also see

Only a few minutes off the highway, this little church has a very impressive setting and a very old organ. Allow about an hour to spend in and outside the church. We did not visit the museum but did enjoy a delightful lunch on the patio outside with wonderful views of the Tourbillon. Park on the lower level of the parking garage at the base of the hill and walk up a steep narrow road to the Church-Fortress of Valere.

While the ancient organ looks as though it was manufactured only a few years ago, the remainder of the church is a small, quiet, and quietly impressive edifice. Look out for the slab tomb of Bishop Guillaume VI, the fresco martyrdom of St Sebastian, and the charming fresco of St Sebastian "introducing" the bishop to Mary, the mother of Christ.
