Grosse Scheidegg's location has to be seen to be believed, perched at the top of the steep pass linking Grindelwald and Meiringen. It's a popular haunt with walkers, being at the ned of several high level walks in the region. The walk from First to here is sublime with views opening out in all directions. The little hotel and restaurant... More

Accessible by bus to/from Grindelwald, the restaurant and bar are a perfect starting or ending point for the gentle hike to/from First Lift. Flowers and cows, marmots and birds await the rambler on the trails and dirt roads. It is a good choice when the weather is not perfect.

We took the postal bus from the wetterhorn up to the grosse schiedegg and then walked back down amongst the cows, flowers and fitness enthusiasts cycling up it!!! At the top the scenery is stunning with new vistas opening up. In the past we have walked many times across to shrekfeld and First but this time it was a gentle... More

There isn't much to Grosse Scheidegg. Take the bus from Grindelwald (which takes about 30 minutes) & then choose your walk. We chose the one to Schrekfeld as all the others were closed due to recent, unexpected snowfall. What a wonderful walk this is with magnificent views across to Wetterhorn, Mattenberg and Eiger and further, much further. If you wish you... More

Having based ourselves at Mannlichen and First previous days, Klein Scheidegg proved the best option on day 3 of our skii holiday....... more food options, lockers and considerably more sheltered facing down the valley....... will base ourselves here for daytime activities on future visits.

Grosse Scheidegg is the big brother of kleine Scheidegg, the station and hotel/refuge cluster at the foot of the North Wall of the Eiger and from where most climbing expeditions have started. Grosse Scheidegg is some distance to the west, the other side of Grindelwald which nestles in the valley below the Eiger. GS is best seen from the chairlifts... More

Weather almost perfect in the morning, after noon start to be windy and some clouds. For a first day on skis was nice.

Grosse Scheidegg is mostly accessible in the seasons before and after winter, but on a rare occasion like this year, we could be taken up in a Post Auto where we were able to then sledge down. Breathtaking views on this sunny winter day as we sledged down on the snow covered road. Brilliant fun and brilliant service. Thanks to... More

If you are coming to Grindlewald to then travel up to First, consider the Swiss post bus up to Grosse Scheidigg from either Meiringen or Grindlewald. Grosse Scheidigg is the top of the pass, and the bus trip is especially good from the Meiringen side. The 2 hr walk across to First gives ever widening views of the Eiger massif.... More
