About
The Rhine Falls, the biggest waterfall in Europe, offer the visitors a spectacular sight! 17,000 years ago this impressive wonder of nature was formed and is now the main attraction for countless visitors from all over the world. Over a width of 150 metres and a height of 23 metres, an average of 700,000 litres of water cascade over the rocks every second. A boat ride to the famous rock in the middle of the Falls and the short walk to the top, is an unforgettable experience for every visitor.

Well worth the time spent. They’re choices of 3 different boats, we chose the yellow one which took us to a rock right next to the waterfall. You get to climb up the rock which was a great experience. We ate at the nearby restaurant, the food was pricey but good; I’d recommended the cheaper options available. It’s an hours train ride from Zurich, however instead of getting just a ticket to the place, I’d recommend getting a travel pass, which can be tailored to the number of days you’ll be in Switzerland. Well worth the money

Absolutely amazing, so beautiful. Great facilities, convenient parking and plenty of clean public toilets. Unfortunately most restaurats were closed of cloed early. If you can do the boat trip, it's great

We got the train here when we were staying in Zurich. We paid the 3 francs to visit the best view point and it was well worth it, you get so close to it, its an amazing experience. We also did the pink boat trip which takes you close to the fall as well.

I've been to Rhine Falls for the 2nd time and I still loving it. The strong current and the sounds of the rushing water is enchanting. There is a boat tour that will take you the big stone in the middle of the river and current is magical, love it.

We visited rhinefalls yesterday and I was a bit worried as some reviews I had read said February wasn't a good time to see them. However they were in full force and with the beautiful weather we done the full loop wall around seeing them up close and far away. Nice easy train journey from zurich where you get dropped right at the falls

Visited the Rhine falls with the Best of Switzerland tours . It was a awesome day . The view and experience was fantastic. The Rhine falls are spectacular and worth the drive about an hour out of Zurich . I would highly suggest just to do the 20 min boat ride that’s roughly 7/8 Swiss franc . Checking the weather before booking or making the trip is always a good idea .

Spectacular waterfalls that can be seen very up-close — very dynamic! The walkway offers a number of viewing spots, but the best way to see the falls are by boat — consider springing for the one that takes you to the rocks that jut up in the center. Definitely wear clothes that can get misted on.

Absolutly spectacular place! A must visit when in the region. I would recommend taking a boat, at least the red line that simply crosses the Rhine.

Is it accessible to handicapped people, wheelchair/scooter?

If you go by train, yes!
There is a railway station above the falls. There is also an elevator to bring you down to the level of the basin! There you have a good allround view!
If you want to go to the mini Rock-island (inside the falls) you cannot go with wheelchair!
But believe me...the view from the basin is anyway the best!

When doing the rock tour no. 1 yellow line, which side of the boat is best to sit on for views of the falls?
Chris
Zurich, Switzerland175 contributions
Hello,
The Yellow Line start as usual to east, goes below the Bridge, turns back, continue to the rhine falls. Then The boat reach the EAST half of the falls with the RIGHT SIDE of the Boat. Then the Boat turns in the basin and reach the WEST half of the falls with the LEFT SIDE of the boat. After that, the trip is over.
Have a nice Sunday

Hello
We are visiting Rhine Falls on Sunday 1 March, people say that everything is closed in Switzerland on Sunday, anyone know if the Rhine falls viewing platform and lift is still open or only in summer months ?
Also will the surrounding shops in the town be closed too ?
We just got that the falls won't freeze up, looks nice with water pouring down :)

Rhine Falls are open all year round (viewing plateforms). Although most of shops are closed on Sunday in Switzerland, there are some exceptions and souvenirs shops around the falls are one of the exception.
