Old museum
Feb 2020 • Solo
Saw the building on the way to Lake Geneva. It looked rather old but plain. Was not able to visit the museum inside.

Nice building
Mar 2019 • Solo
Came across the building after walking through Bastion Park. It looked quite nice with the pillars out front. I didn't have time to go inside though.

Excellent special exhibition center
May 2018 • Solo
Currently the Musee Rath is showing an excellent exhibition of Switzerland's leading painter, Ferdinand Hodler. The lighting is stunning and the well illustrated themes makes for an enlightened appreciation of this painter, whose works are difficult to find outside the country.

Fabulous photo exhibition
Aug 2016 • Friends
I'm running behind on my Trip Advisor reviews so I don't know whether the fabulous exhibition that combines both the history of photography and Geneva is still on but if it is, it was one of the best displays of historic photographs that I have seen in a museum. We planned to stay for half an hour and stayed for over 2 hours.

Interesting
Jul 2016 • Friends
This museum was very interesting and had some very unique photographs that tied in with the history of Geneva. But somehow it was lacking in didn't seem to have a core identity. The air-conditioning was great on a hot day! LOL you can see the whole place in about 30 minutes.

Good but not impressive
Sep 2015
This is a small museum near the old city. When I visited, there were interesting photos and etchings as well as a 360 degree interactive art item. The museum was smaller and for the price (unless you have the Geneva Pass) is not worth it.

A few highlights worth your time
Jul 2015 • Solo
I've seen the "panoramas" exhibition, which attempts to bring together a number of visual samples of the word's various meanings.

Before the invent of cinema, panoramic paintings were a kind of funfair attraction. Along these lines, a short from 1900 by Thomas Edison shows a "spinning sidewalk" where you can see a bunch of belle époque people thrilled by the "panoramic impression" it triggered. It's always fun to watch how people entertained themselves before they had TV.

Daguerre's painting "Effet de neige et brouillard" alone is worth the visit.

A small exhibition with enough to bite into still, especially if dwelling on little details is what you're fond of.

Exhibition Gustave Courbet in Geneva

He revolutionised French and european paintings from the end of 1840s onwards, an active artist also interested in the political life of his adopted country Switzerland. The exhibit depicts the swiss years of his career and the influence he had on the art scene of the epoch. Part of the Courbet Season organized by The Beyerler Found. in Basel.
