One of the best preserved fountains but not to be taken too literally. The carving was very well done & I think that this was our favourite fountain.

Personally I was not concerned nor upset by the subject of this fountain but rather I saw it as a depiction of a fairy tale. We all have read the tales of the wicked witch who eats children, or the wicked wolf or giant, etc....More

The child eater statue has many myths or tales behind it which makes it extremely interesting. Actually it is said to be a statue to scare children which really works.

The theme is Obnoxious. Nobody actually seems to know why this monument was created. It is misfit in the fountain culture of Bern but may be that makes it more intresting.

Bern has many fountains in Old Town. They each have an interesting history. Our group enjoyed trying to hunt for them.

As a little kid, it was pointed out that if I didn't behave the "Kindlifresser" would take care of me. I knew he would not eat me, but the thought was scary anyway!

Kind of horrifying fountain, dating from the 16th century, that depicts an ogre eating children. Although this fountain shows a horrendous depiction of cruelty, it is famous, so don't forget to check it out when in Bern.

Very interesting fountain, wish I had a guide to tell me a story behind it, but thanks to Google I am not left without knowledge.
