Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

With the Bern old town being so beautiful, this station does not stand out at all. Very boring, dark and hard to navigate.

We came to Bern for about five hours while visiting Lucerne as a quick side trip . We used our Swiss travel passes to get here for free, it takes about an hour on the train. When we arrived at the train station, we found there were actually no directions anywhere as to how to exit the station, or directions to the old town, it was just a complete zoo of a train station. We were finally able to find a public toilet, which was free, and using Google maps we were able to finally find a way to the old town which is about a 20 minute walk away.

Other people on TripAdvisor have notated that there was a great underground shopping area and access to trains, and once we were in the center of old town, we did see another entrance to the train station, so perhaps we just got unlucky as our train arrived at the far end of Bern town center, we did not see any shops or restaurants at all underground so my conclusion is that this is a very large train station, and depending where your platform is, that you come in on, gives you a completely different experience. There were some fast food restaurants in a tiny shopping mall by the train station where we came in and left from.

Amazing underground shopping center full of eateries of all sorts. Interesting just to walk around. It is very large full of locals and tourists trying to reach the trains to their destinations.

We took the train into Bern and were happy to see that it is close to the old town and thereby easy access to the sights of the city.

Arriving early morning at the bright and efficient station, it was busy with travellers, commuters and visitors. All moving through with no delays.

This latest renovation resulted in an expansive space with many shops and eateries. Outside is a fine Square in which a notable Church resides.

This station (like most in Switzerland) is well coordinated, easy to navigate and centrally located. Don't hesitate to use it as a main stop or good connection.

PROS
* Large major and central train transportation hub
* Good travel access to all parts of the country
* Centrally located in the city of Bern
* Connected to large long underground shopping area

CONS
* Busy crowded and congested
* Challenging to maneuver on the platforms
* Totally inadequate ventilation- there is fumes pollution
* Major construction currently obstructs passageways and walking
* There are no ramps- there are steps and too small elevators that are challenging with luggage
* The underground shopping is dizzying and confusing

"I VISITED THIS PLACE"...
... because as stated it is a major transportation hub. It is the connection and transfer point from Zurich Flughafen where I arrive to Berner Oberland, where I hike. Other than that, I have "no use" for this place.

I passed through and transferred here twice and actually got off once on a rainy afternoon- to visit the city as an alternative to hiking (please read my reviews).

ADVICES
It may be difficult to avoid this transport point during your journey, so "just grin and bear it" and be prepared for the conditions and circumstances, and get out of there and on your forward journey way as soon as possible.

First time I've thought of rating a railway station but this is one of the best of Swiss. The great thing is that the number of national languages makes it impossible to announce everything, so it is quite quiet with highly efficient screens showing all you need to know. Yes, of course this can be a concern if you are blind. Great selection of shops. We particularly liked the bakery selection at Reinhard. Up the escalators is easy undercover access to the Bern transport system. Being Swiss, well organized and spotlessly clean. The trains are good, too!

This is a very busy train station! It is convenient to shops, hotels, restaurants, and city sights.
Trains run very frequently to all locations both within and outside of Switzerland.

All train stations in Switzerland are in the very center of the old town. They have a huge network connecting towns and villages all over the country.
This is also the case with the capital's train station, which is a huge underground complex. It also has several eateries and supermarkets working until late at night.
