My wife and I and another tour member were taken by the tour leader for a great day out into the Umbrain countryside to experience a taste of the country. Our charming guide drove us to a small restaurant that served local dairy products including some delicious yogurt. We then visited where it was made; a local dairy farm where the processing of a range of products was explained- milk, yogurt, and various cheeses. This was followed by visits to several wineries specialising in high quality wine production. And then a walk through a vineyard to a picnic lunch of local bread, olive oil and olives, cheese, cured meats and wine- a small feast of Umbrian foods. And this was capped off by a fabulous view towards the Assisi townscape and the surrounding hills. Belle panorama! The whole deal was delivered with great enthusiasm, pride and some style. You couldn't help but appreciate it. A great day out and a welcome change from beautiful old cathedrals.
